It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Just before midnight on November 3, 2023, Patrolman James LaRocca from the West Amwell Township Police saw a BMW speed by at 78 MPH in a 50 MPH zone on State Highway 179. As he started following the car, he saw the driver switch lanes and pass another vehicle into the northbound lane. LaRocca pulled the BMW over, and the vehicle in front also stopped. He first spoke with that driver, who said he was the ex-boyfriend of the woman LaRocca had just pulled over. Then, he approached Anastasiya, who was behind the wheel of the BMW. Anastasiya told LaRocca she was trying to get away from her ex after a heated argument. She said she was heading back to Pennsylvania. During their talk, LaRocca caught a whiff of alcohol. Suspicious she had been drinking, he called for help. Officer Smith arrived to assist, and Anastasiya was asked to perform some field sobriety tests. LaRocca used the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test first. Then, Anastasiya tried the Walk and Turn test. She failed this test by not touching heel to toe, not counting aloud, and taking too many or too few steps. Next was the One Leg Stand test. She couldn’t keep her foot raised properly and used her arms to stay balanced. Because she broke traffic laws, smelled of alcohol, and couldn’t pass the tests, LaRocca arrested Anastasiya for DUI. Her vehicle was seized and held for at least 12 hours under John’s Law. LaRocca took her to the police station for processing. At the station, Anastasiya read the standard rights for drivers. She agreed to give breath samples. Sergeant Gray from Delaware Township used the Alcotest machine, which showed a BAC of 0.05%. After processing, she was released to a friend. She signed a form warning her about potential liabilities. She also received tickets for DUI, reckless driving, and speeding by 25-29 MPH. Court records show that on February 7, 2024, her DUI and speeding charges were dismissed. She pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
