On January 15, 2023, Kent Police Lieutenant Short observed a vehicle driving for an extended period of time with its right blinker on. When he pulled up next to the vehicle, he could see a woman sitting on the driver's lap. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the 20-year-old woman admitted to consuming 3 and 1/2 drinks. She was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. This included blowing into a portable breathalyzer. The result was 0.148% BAC. She was arrested for DUI and underage drinking. At the Kent police station, a fake ID was found. She also submitted to an evidential breath test (EBT) and the result was 0.166% BAC, more than 8 times the legal limit for someone under 21-years-old. She is fighting the charges and her case remains open. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
