This was a traffic stop on a highway known for interstate drug transportation. The suspect was an MMA gym owner from Texas that said he was traveling to Missouri to coach one of his MMA clients at an event they were competing at. It appeared that the officer knew right from the start that this guy was involved in illegal activities. He mentioned that the suspect appeared to be extremely nervous during their interaction. The original reason for the stop was said to be speeding in a construction zone. The suspect eventually claimed to have a small amount of weed in the center console that he had been smoking. He did not have a medical card to be able to smoke so that itself was not legal. Things really went sideways when the officer asked him how frequently he travels to Missouri and he responded by saying he had been there one time in the past 6 months. The officers looked in the database that utilizes license plate cameras and saw that he had made 8 trips to Missouri in just the last few months. The officer searched the vehicle and found over 109 pounds of weed in the trunk. He pleaded guilty and received a 6 year suspended sentence.
