On March 12, 2025, Lacey Police Officer Cecil was on routine patrol when she observed the driver of a Mercedes approach the back of her patrol vehicle at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued towards Officer Cecil's rear driver's side bumper before quickly jerking into the inside lane, causing the driver to almost strike another vehicle. The Mercedes had to slam in its brakes to avoid colliding with the other vehicle. Officer Cecil initiated a traffic stop on the Mercedes, which was being driven by a 55-year-old woman. The driver denied consuming alcohol several times. She refused to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence. At the Lacey Police Station, she agreed to submit to an evidential breath test. The lower of her 2 breath samples was recorded as 0.274% BAC. She was then transported to the Nisqually Corrections Center, where she was released from custody the following morning. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
