Body-worn camera footage played in court shows the arrest of teenagers at the Beach Drive Motel in Batemans Bay, New South Wales, after police responded to reports of an alleged attempted home invasion. Among the responding officers was NSW Police Senior Constable Brett David Lindsay, who was later charged following an internal investigation into his use of force during the arrest. The court heard Lindsay forced two boys, aged 14 and 17, to the ground, and punched the older boy in the collarbone during a scuffle. Lindsay denied the allegations, but was found guilty of three counts of common assault and sentenced to a two-year community correction order. Lindsay appealed his convictions in the Downing Centre District Court, where the bodycam footage was again reviewed. Judge Lara Gallagher dismissed the appeal, finding the use of force was unnecessary, unreasonable and excessive. NSW Police confirmed Lindsay stopped serving as an officer in January 2026.
