Hernandez observed a black 2011 Chevy Traverse (AR Temp Tags: DA-489-110) traveling eastbound on West Main Street and making an illegal turn on the exit ramp on W Main (Westbound). I got behind the vehicle and initiated my emergency lights. The vehicle turned right onto TP White Drive and turned into Akon gas station, 1530 West Main Street, and went around the gas pump and turned left onto TP White Drive and stopped at the light on W Main. I advised dispatch the vehicle was failing to yield and speeds were at least 30 mph. The vehicle turned into Willowbend Apartments, 300 Marshal Road, and stopped near the 5 mph sign. I observed the passenger door open, when a dark skinned black male wearing a dark t-shirt and light jeans got out of the passenger side with a silver handgun, pointed in my direction and fired one shot in my direction. I exited my vehicle and took cover on the driver rear panel. I was unable to fire a round. The suspect ran North into Willowbend Apartments. I did not see where the Chevrolet Traverse drove off to but the vehicle did not leave the complex. I was unable to identify the driver. I advised dispatch of the situation. I remained behind cover until backup arrived. Sgt Harrelson checked me to make sure I was not hit. I was not injured during the shooting. UPDATE: On January 9, 2023, at approximately 1540 hours, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Office, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
