Minor traffic violations quickly reveal a driver's significant impairment, escalating a routine stop into a serious DUI investigation. On a late September night, Officer Westerman initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle make multiple turns without signaling and nearly strike a curb. Upon contact, the officer immediately detected signs of impairment from the 19-year-old driver, including the odor of alcohol and watery, bloodshot eyes. The situation escalated when the driver refused to participate in field sobriety exercises, leading to her arrest for driving under the influence. Subsequently, at police headquarters, the driver submitted to breath tests, which confirmed a blood alcohol content of 0.179%. She was later released with a summons, eventually pleading guilty to DUI, resulting in a suspended jail sentence, probation, and a 90-day license suspension. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
