Anaheim, California – September 15, 2025 Shortly after 12:00 p.m., Anaheim Police dispatch received a call from a resident reporting a man behaving suspiciously in the 1100 block of North Columbine Street. The caller described the individual as unfamiliar to the neighborhood, standing near a driveway while holding a brick, and possibly under the influence of narcotics. The man was believed to be transient. The information was logged as a suspicious person report and held for dispatch until an officer became available. Roughly 30 minutes later, at about 12:40 p.m., an officer monitoring pending calls self-assigned to the incident and began driving toward the area. Around that same time, dispatch received a second 911 call referencing the same man — this time from staff at John Marshall Elementary School, located nearby. The caller informed dispatchers that the individual was now holding a broken shovel, had been loitering near the school parking lot for nearly an hour, and was currently standing in the roadway. Within minutes, the responding officer arrived and located the suspect — later identified as 36-year-old Rudy Anthony Martinez II — walking in the middle of the street with the shovel in hand. As the patrol car approached, Martinez reportedly looked toward the officer, raised the shovel over his head, and ran toward the vehicle. The officer exited his unit as Martinez struck the patrol car multiple times with the shovel, then turned toward the officer and advanced aggressively. In response to the imminent threat, the officer discharged his firearm, striking Martinez. Immediately following the shooting, officers provided medical aid, including chest compressions and chest seals, until Anaheim Fire & Rescue paramedics arrived. Martinez was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. 🚨 Join the Raw Squad! 🚨 Want to see extra clips, discuss crazy bodycam moments, and be part of the squad?
