A robbery call at a grocery store. Officers converging from every direction. And a correction the department didn't have to make. On June 26, 2022, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to an armed robbery in progress at a Food Lion on Tuckaseegee Road. Nearby, they located a man matching the suspect's description — 46-year-old Kevin Boston. When officers approached, Boston pulled a firearm and refused to drop it. Officers, perceiving an imminent threat, opened fire. Boston fired as well, striking CMPD patrol vehicles. He was struck by gunfire and later pronounced deceased at the hospital. This is the full body-worn camera footage of the response — multiple officers, different starting points, all converging on the same few blocks, followed by the scene lockdown, medical response, and hours of evidence processing that follow every officer-involved shooting in Charlotte. The most important part of this story isn't the shooting. It's what CMPD did almost a year later: when this footage was finally released, the department corrected its own initial statement. They had said Boston fired first. The completed investigation couldn't definitively confirm that — so they said so, on the record, even though it didn't change their legal conclusion. ⚠️ Kevin Boston is deceased. This video discusses the circumstances of his death based on CMPD's own official account. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and CMPD's Internal Affairs Bureau both investigated independently. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office reviewed the case and declined to prosecute any officer involved. 📁 Chapters: 0:00 – Cold open 0:18 – Disclaimer 0:57 – The Call 2:31 – The Response 5:05 – Arrival 6:49 – The Encounter 7:21 – Scene Lockdown 8:55 – Medical Response 9:34 – Evidence Processing 11:28 – The Wider Perimeter 13:32 – The Correction 14:05 – The Charges and Legal Outcome 14:34 – Outro 🎥 Footage: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, released by court order.
