Just after midnight on January 8, 2024, a man called 911 from a house in Camas, Washington and told dispatchers his wife was having a seizure and had stopped breathing. He said he was doing what he could for her. He had been a paramedic for eighteen years and was a battalion chief with the Camas-Washougal Fire Department. Marcelle "Marcy" West, 48, was pronounced dead at the home. In the days that followed, several people contacted the Clark County Sheriff's Office with concerns about the couple's marriage and about whether her death had really been natural. Detectives interviewed Kevin West three times over the following ten weeks. This video is those interviews, and the morning they came back with an arrest warrant. In the first interview, hours after she died, he laid out a careful timeline: dinner downtown, a headache around 10:30, ibuprofen, she was sick, bed around eleven, and the dog waking him to find her seizing. He said she took no prescriptions, did not drink and used no drugs. Three weeks later, detectives came back and asked him about a woman named Cynthia. He admitted he was having an affair, and that it was ongoing. Then they told him the autopsy had found injuries, and asked him what could explain bruising on both sides of his wife's neck. He said nothing could. A medical examiner determined Marcy West died of asphyxia with blunt trauma to the neck, and ruled the manner of death homicide. Prosecutors argued at trial that Kevin West was having an affair, had consulted a divorce attorney in December, intended to leave his wife, and staged the scene to look like a medical emergency. His defence did not dispute the affair, but argued that Marcy's recurring headaches caused a seizure that killed her, and that first responders failed to treat her properly. On January 20, 2026, after a two-week trial, a Clark County jury found Kevin West guilty of murder. UPDATE - what happened after this footage ends: on February 27, 2026, Kevin West was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He will be eligible for release only after serving 90 percent of that term, and his attorney said the defence intends to appeal. Given the chance to speak, West apologised for the affair and said "that is my only wrongdoing," maintaining his innocence. The judge told him he did not believe his account and that he believed the jury reached the correct verdict. His two children addressed the court on opposite sides: his son asked the judge for leniency, and his daughter Megan asked for the harshest sentence available, telling her father that days after her mother died he brought his girlfriend into their home. Footage in this video: Clark County Sheriff's Office Axon body-worn camera and recorded interview-room video, released as public records. Portions of the released interview footage are blurred by the agency at source. Court information from Clark County Superior Court and from reporting by The Columbian, KPTV, KOIN, KATU and the Camas-Washougal Post-Record.
