They noticed a 2013 Hyundai Elantra heading west in the wrong direction on Paterson Avenue. The officers decided to pull the car over, and it stopped in front of 59 Paterson Avenue. Once the car came to a stop, the officers observed the driver and passenger quickly switch seats, which was unusual. They then approached 20-year-old Rosa Taveras, who was in the passenger seat, as she was the one driving the vehicle. While speaking with Rosa, Officer Grossi noticed her watery eyes and smelled alcohol on her. He requested her driver's license, but she could only show her insurance. He called for another unit to come to the scene and started field sobriety tests, with Officers Cruzado and Straten arriving soon after. Suspecting that Rosa might be impaired, Officer Grossi asked her to step out of the car and complete some sobriety exercises. Although she initially denied drinking, she later confessed to having one Corona a few hours earlier. The first field sobriety test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, Officer Grossi observed that Rosa did not follow a smooth path with her eyes, showed noticeable and sustained jerking of the eyes at their farthest point, and experienced jerking before reaching 45 degrees in both eyes. The second test was the Walk and Turn test. In this exercise, Rosa had difficulty walking heel-to-toe and struggled to maintain her balance. The third test was the One Leg Stand test. While performing this test, Rosa swayed side to side and could not keep her foot raised as instructed. Due to her erratic driving and failure to complete the field sobriety tests, Officer Grossi arrested Rosa for driving under the influence. A search of her car found no illegal items. She was taken to the Hoboken Police Department for processing. Officer Cruzado, trained to use the Alcotest machine, read Rosa the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators at the police station, and she agreed to take breath tests. However, she did invoke her Miranda rights and chose not to answer questions about her arrest. Officer Cruzado conducted the Alcotest after observing Rosa for 20 minutes. The results showed that Rosa had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.14%. This level is almost double the legal limit of 0.08% and seven times the limit of 0.02% for drivers under 21. After processing, Rosa was released to her boyfriend, who signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her. Officer Grossi then issued Rosa several summonses, including operating under the influence, underage drinking and driving, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Court records show that on September 14, 2022, Rosa was found guilty of reckless driving and received a fine of $240. The other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal. 5:46 where are the cameras usually mounted? If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video .
