#news #police #arrest #cops #theft Report: On 09/23/2021, Officer responded to a call for a stolen property. Upon arrival officer spoke with the caller. The caller stated that there were two black males inside the business, and she believed one of the males was in possession of a phone that had been stolen from her at an earlier date. Officers on scene went into the business to speak with the individuals. Officers first spoke with the male with red shirt. He stated that he was in the business to use the wifi. Officer asked if he could see his phone to verify that it was not the phone that we were looking for. He agreed, and while the officer was looking through the phone for the serial number, other officers on scene were speaking with the other individual. The other individual was asleep when the officers arrived, and while the officer was looking through reds shirts phone, Officer Rogers woke the other individual up. Shortly after waking him, the individual,(the suspect) began to stand up. The suspect was told to sit down by Offices, and then the suspect attempted to run away. The suspect was grabbed by Offices and then he began to fight Offices on scene. As the suspect was fighting to escape the officers, the suspect attempted to get out the door. A citizen, who was on his way into the business, held the door closed. At this time the officers were able to place the suspect in handcuffs, BB/DL, and placed him in the patrol car. The officer did a search incident to arrest, and located a three gram bag of crystal substance, that field tested positive for methamphetamine, a digital scale, and $140 of US currency in small bills. After the suspect was identified the officers were notified that the suspect has active warrants in Clarke county and Jackson County. The suspect was placed under arrest for obstruction, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. He was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital to be treated for an injury sustained during the incident. The officers then transported to the Clarke County Jail. Custody of the suspect was turned over to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
