On July 4, 2026, Rio Rancho Police Officer Barsody initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that almost caused a traffic collision. Officer Barsody walked up to the driver's side front window and observed no driver in the vehicle. He asked the passenger where the driver was and she motioned to the 27-year-old woman sitting in the backseat. The woman admitted that she did not have a valid driver's license because of a previous Driving While Under the Influence (DWI) arrest. She also admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. Sgt. Saina responded to the location to conduct a DWI investigation. The woman performed standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI. At the Rio Rancho police station, she provided two breath samples, which both registered 0.08% BAC. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
