It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 1:56 AM on October 19, 2024, Patrolman Michael Zibrin from the Shrewsbury Police was patrolling the Dunkin parking lot. He spotted a 2007 Honda Accord driving south on Broad Street without headlights. The officer decided to follow the vehicle. The driver then turned right onto Thomas Avenue and went the wrong way on a one-way street. Zibrin pulled the car over and spoke to the driver, who was later identified as Darby. While talking to Darby, Patrolman Zibrin noticed the smell of alcohol. He also saw signs that suggested she might be impaired. Darby handed over her documents, and Zibrin called for additional help. Darby's passenger explained they had just come from B2 Bistro in Red Bank and were headed back to the Holiday Inn. She also mentioned they had been at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center earlier that night to see the musical Fiddler on the Roof. Because Zibrin suspected she was drunk, he asked her to step out of the car to perform some field sobriety tests. Zibrin started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. During this test, he saw signs of impairment in four out of six clues. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Darby failed to touch her heel-to-toe correctly and did not count the proper number of steps. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Darby couldn't keep her foot up properly and put it down before the test was finished. Since he smelled alcohol and she struggled with the tests, Zibrin decided to arrest Darby for driving under the influence. Her car was then impounded for at least 12 hours as required by John's Law. Zibrin drove Darby to the police station for processing. At the station, Darby was read the standard statement for drivers but refused to give a breath sample. After processing, she was released to another adult and scheduled for court. The officers filled out a Potential Liability Warning form for her. Darby received tickets for operating under the influence, refusing a chemical test, reckless driving, careless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and not using her lights. 9:14 asked if staying in that position was part of the test, he says yes.
