The crash was reported at St. Marks Avenue and St. Paul Avenue. The caller reported a black Dodge Durango SUV was involved. Officer Colin Scanlon went to the crash site. Officer Markovy Jacques looked for the SUV nearby. Jacques drove west on North Avenue. He turned left onto Crossway Place. There, he spotted a car that matched the description. The Dodge Durango turned right from South Avenue West onto Crossway Place, making a strange turn. Jacques followed the SUV. He turned on his lights after it turned left onto North Avenue. The SUV stopped on North Avenue, near Whittier Avenue in Scotch Plains. Jacques told dispatch about the stop. He then spoke with the driver, identified as Melissa. While talking to Melissa, he smelled alcohol. He also saw other signs that she was not okay. Melissa said she was driving home after her bartending job. Sergeant Wierzbicki came to help at the scene. They asked Melissa to get out of her car. Then, she did some roadside sobriety tests. Officer Jacques began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He watched Melissa's eyes. They did not move smoothly. Her eyes twitched at the extreme edge. The twitching started before her eyes reached 45 degrees. Next came the Walk and Turn test. Melissa failed to walk heel-to-toe each time. She also took the wrong number of steps. The One Leg Stand test was last. Melissa could not lift her foot correctly. She had to put her foot down too soon. Melissa’s driving was all over the place, leading to a car crash. The strong smell of booze hung in the air around her. She failed the roadside tests, sealing her fate. Officers arrested her for drunk driving. After the arrest, they put Melissa in the patrol car. Her car then faced a 12-hour impound, as John’s Law dictates. Officer Jacques drove Melissa to the station for processing. Sergeant Wierzbicki stayed behind. He watched George’s Towing and Recovery haul away her car. Melissa stood at the station as an officer read her rights. She first said she would give breath samples. But during the Alcotest, she did not help, and got charged with refusal. Once finished, Melissa's dad arrived. He signed a warning form for her. Then, Melissa was free to go before her court date. She got many tickets. These included: DUI, reckless driving, and fleeing the accident. She also failed to report the crash. Other tickets were for refusing the breath test, no license, and no insurance card. 1:19 Did you have anything to drink tonight? 1:20 oops she blew it already 9:58 where exactly are you?!?!? 10:59 BooHoHoooo 18:24 his exasperated sigh lol 28:42 what in the name of The exorcist of Emily Rose was that?!
