On February 3, 2024, Whitman County Deputy Jordan stopped a vehicle for speeding. There were four males in the vehicle. Deputy Jordan asked the 19-year-old driver if he had consumed any alcohol and he said he hadn't. Deputy Jordan performed a quick horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test and could instantly tell that the driver had consumed alcohol. When he confronted the driver, he then admitted to consuming one or two drinks. He was asked to step out the vehicle to perform a series of 3 standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs). At the end of the FSTs, he was asked to blow into a portable breath testing device. However, the driver refused and was immediately placed under arrest for DUI. He was transported to the Pullman police station, where he submitted to an evidential breath test. The result was 0.100% BAC (5 times the legal limit for someone under 21). He was given a citation and released with a future court date. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
