On September 11, 2022, around 4:18 in the morning, a Whitman County Sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle in Colfax, Washington after observing erratic driving. The driver, who was 20 years old, first said she had not been drinking, then admitted she had. After standardized field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, she was arrested for driving under the influence. In this video we walk through each step and the law behind it: the under-21 limit, implied consent, the difference between a roadside test and the official breath test, and when Miranda rights apply.
