It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Sergeant Thomas Hayes saw a woman yelling from a red Jeep. This happened around 12:14 AM on August 3, 2023. The location was near Ocean Avenue and Elizabeth Avenue. He followed the Jeep. The driver was swerving. She also turned without signaling. Sergeant Hayes then stopped the vehicle. The stop occurred in front of Spicy’s Taco & Tequila Bar. He spoke to the driver, Carly, age 26. Sergeant Hayes smelled alcohol. He saw other signs that she was impaired. More officers arrived to help. Carly was asked to get out of the car. She then performed field sobriety tests. First, she tried to recite the alphabet. Then, she did the One Leg Stand. Carly could not lift her foot correctly. She also put it down too soon. Next was the Walk and Turn test. She failed to walk heel-to-toe. Her turn was also wrong. She took too many steps. Finally, she took the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Sergeant Hayes noticed her eyes did not track smoothly. Her eyes twitched at the furthest point. They also twitched before reaching 45 degrees. Carly was arrested for drunk driving. This was due to her bad driving. She also smelled of alcohol. She failed the sobriety tests. Her car was impounded for 12 hours. Officer Biondi took Carly to the police station. At the station, Carly heard the Standard Statement. She agreed to a breath test. Her breath sample showed a BAC of 0.17%. This is over double the legal limit. After processing, her father signed a form. Carly was then released to her parents. Her court date is pending. Sergeant Hayes cited Carly for several offenses. These included driving under the influence and reckless driving. She was also cited for traffic on marked lanes. Lastly, she was cited for failing to signal. Court records show Carly pleaded guilty. This was on February 27, 2024. She admitted to driving under the influence. Her sentence included a three-month license suspension. She also received 12 hours at an alcohol center. Two days in jail were ordered. She paid $640 in fines.
