On December 22, 2020, Columbus police officer Adam Coy fatally shot 47-year-old Andre Hill, an unarmed Black man, inside a garage while responding to a non-emergency call. Hill was holding a cell phone and was not accused of any crime at the time. Coy did not activate his body-worn camera until after the shooting, though a 60-second look-back feature captured the incident without audio. This video contains body cam footage released by the Columbus Division of Police and is part of the public record. Viewer discretion is advised due to the graphic nature of the footage. Following the shooting, Coy was fired by the Columbus Police Department. In 2021, he was indicted by a grand jury on charges including murder and felony assault.
