On May 11, 2023, New Mexico State Police Officer Savage was behind a vehicle stopped at a red light. When the traffic light turned green, the driver did not proceed through the intersection. Later, the driver drove through a red light without slowing down. Officer Savage initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the 28 year-old driver admitted to consuming alcohol at a local brewery. She was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was placed under arrest for DUI and initially stated she would not provide a breath sample at the station. When Officer Savage was setting up the evidential breath testing device, she changed her mind and provided a breath sample. The result was 0.18% BAC.
