Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS lead NFL analyst Tony Romo was pulled over and taken into custody in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 23, 2026. This video walks through the newly released police bodycam footage of the entire traffic stop, from the initial contact on the interstate bridge through the field sobriety tests and the arrest itself. According to the sheriff's office, a deputy stopped Romo on southbound Interstate 43 just south of the Marquette Interchange for unsafe passing on the right. In the bodycam video, the deputy tells Romo she smelled the odor of an intoxicating beverage and observed red, glassy eyes. When asked how many drinks he had consumed, Romo answers "zero," and says he was coming from a golf tournament and heading to see his grandparents. He asks to call his attorney, and the deputy tells him he cannot at that stage because it is an ongoing OWI investigation. He is handcuffed and transported off the bridge for testing. The arrest video then shows more than twelve minutes of standardized field sobriety tests conducted at the Milwaukee County Jail sally port. Romo mentions two previous back surgeries, stretches before beginning, and asks repeated questions throughout the exercises. Deputies wrote in their report that he performed poorly, though the report does not go into further detail. When the deputy asks him to submit to a preliminary roadside breath test, Romo declines, saying he has been told by lawyers never to take one. He then asks whether he passed, and the deputy tells him he is under arrest. Wisconsin is the only state where a first offense operating while intoxicated is a civil traffic forfeiture rather than a criminal charge, which is why there was no bond and no criminal booking. Romo was processed at the Milwaukee County Jail and released the same night. He received four citations in total: operating while under the influence, possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, unsafe passing on the right, and refusing to take a test for intoxication after arrest. That last one falls under Wisconsin's implied consent law and carries its own penalty of up to a one year license revocation, entirely separate from the OWI. A court date is set for September 21, and Romo is not required to appear. His attorney has requested a hearing to challenge the refusal citation and declined to comment publicly. Romo himself has not issued a statement. He withdrew from the Texas State Open following the arrest. CBS has not commented on his status as lead NFL analyst. 👉 Subscribe for more real police bodycam footage, arrests, and criminal investigations. Disclaimer: Tony Romo has been cited, not convicted.
