The Sacramento Police Department says, Thursday morning, an officer spotted a car near El Camino Avenue and Cantalier Street that had been reported as carjacked the day before. Police say a struggle then ensued with the suspect who was in the car. "At one point during the struggle, our officer used a taser but it was ineffective," a Sacramento police spokesperson said. The suspect was able to get into the driver's seat at some point during the struggle. The suspect then tried to take off – causing a collision between an officer on foot and the vehicle, police say. It was at this point that an officer-involved shooting occurred, police say. Officers say the suspect was later located at an area hospital with at least one gunshot wound; the suspect is expected to survive. The suspect was identified Thursday evening as Clayton Freeman, 32. Freeman is set to be booked into jail once he is medically cleared from the hospital. The officer that was involved in the collision suffered moderate injuries, police say, and was taken to the hospital. "We're doing everything we can to make sure our neighborhoods are safe and doing everything that we can to respond to crimes like carjackings which is a violent felony crime," the spokesperson said.
