Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At 3:41 AM on November 24, 2022, Officer Danielle Braun of the Ocala Police Department went to a Circle K on NE 28th Avenue. A caller reported that a woman was "slumped over" inside a white 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. Officer Braun and another officer spoke with the caller before knocking on the vehicle's windows. The woman woke up and said she did not have her driver's license. She identified herself as Ella and said she was 27 years old. While speaking with Ella, Officer Braun smelled alcohol and noticed signs of impairment. Ella said a friend could pick her up, but that friend had also been drinking and could not drive. Braun believed Ella was unsafe behind the wheel and began a DUI investigation. Ella got out of the vehicle and performed several field sobriety tests. The Walk and Turn test came first. Ella failed to place her heel against her toe with each step and made the wrong turn on her first attempt. She tried again but still could not follow the instructions. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, Braun saw a lack of smooth eye movement, clear nystagmus at maximum deviation, and nystagmus beginning before 45 degrees. Ella also struggled with the One Leg Stand. She did not raise her foot correctly, failed to count aloud as instructed, and put her foot down too soon. When asked to recite the alphabet, she could not say the letters in the proper order. Ella's eyes closed while she sat behind the wheel, and the smell of alcohol remained in the car. After she failed the roadside tests, officers arrested her for driving under the influence. Officer Braun drove Ella to the Marion County Jail. Officer Matthews watched as Carl Johnson's Towing removed the Volkswagen. At 4:42 AM, Ella took a breath test at the jail. The results showed BAC readings of .145 and .144, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After waiving her Miranda rights, she said she had consumed five drinks at bars that night.
