When he arrived, he saw a black 2014 Mercedes that matched the description. He approached the driver, identified as 26-year-old Ziasia Lanier. As he spoke with her, he noticed her speech was slurred, and he could smell alcohol coming from the car. Further investigation revealed a nearly empty 750 ml bottle of Patron Tequila inside the vehicle. Ziasia first told the officer that she had been in the parking lot for about 5 to 30 minutes after leaving her home. While investigating the scene, Patrolman Jeffrey Weitzman went into the Wawa store to check the surveillance footage. This footage showed that Ziasia had actually been sitting in her car since around 3:20 AM and had not gone into the Wawa at all. When confronted with this evidence, Ziasia changed her story. She explained to Patrolman Mortelliti that she had come from a friend's cook-out the night before and that the mostly empty bottle of Patron Tequila was due to several people taking shots during the gathering before she left. Suspecting that she might be impaired, the officer offered Ziasia a chance to do some field sobriety tests. Patrolman Mortelliti began the assessment with the Walk and Turn test. Ziasia struggled to walk heel-to-toe in a straight line. She also leaned on her arms for support and didn’t count out loud as she was supposed to. Next came the One Leg Stand test. Ziasia counted out loud but stopped suddenly after just 10 seconds. The last test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), which was conducted by Patrolman Jeffrey Weitzman. During this test, Patrolman Weitzman noticed that Ziasia's eyes did not move smoothly. He observed distinct and sustained shaking at the maximum point of her gaze in both eyes, and he saw the shaking start before her right eye reached a 45-degree angle. Patrolman Mortelliti observed Ziasia's slurred speech and detected the smell of alcohol in her car. She struggled to perform the field sobriety tests. Based on these signs, he arrested her for driving under the influence. After the arrest, Ziasia became difficult and claimed she was being treated unfairly because of her race. Around this time, Patrolwoman Franci Garibay arrived and conducted a search before placing Ziasia in the patrol car. Under John’s Law, her vehicle was impounded. Mortelliti then took Ziasia to the Evesham Township Police Department for processing. At the police station, Ziasia was informed of her rights, including the rules for drivers. She did not cooperate and refused to provide breath samples. After going through the booking process, she was allowed to leave with her mother, who signed a warning form on her behalf. Officer Mortelliti issued her several tickets for driving under the influence, reckless driving, and refusing a chemical test. On October 6, 2022, Ziasia faced the consequences of her actions when she admitted to driving under the influence. As part of her sentence, she had to spend 12 hours at a center designed for intoxicated drivers. Additionally, she was required to use an ignition interlock device in her car for three months and pay fines totaling $790. Fortunately, she had some relief as the other offenses against her were dropped due to her plea agreement. 0:36 She was sitting in her car looking for her car 1:24 I don’t care what race you are 3:29 That’s why I was sitting in my car coz 5:20 I consumed alcohol because 14:50 These officers were great and 27:19 and people! 31:00 She turned from sickening sweet to raging anger real quick 38:28 Oh no, she's not drunk If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video .
