“I have my receipt!” A suspected shoplifting encounter at a Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes turns into a struggle as Thomas Tanner repeatedly insists he has proof of purchase. On February 22, 2026, store security alerted a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy to an alleged theft. According to the arrest report, Tanner pulled away, attempted to flee, and charged at the deputy during the detention. Additional deputies arrived, and Tanner was taken into custody. Tanner was arrested on charges of petit theft, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer, along with an outstanding warrant.
