On February 1, 2025, Lakewood Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance call where the calling party reported dogs barking and a vehicle with the engine running. Officer Prendergast arrived first to discover a 34-year-old woman passed out behind the wheel. It took more than shouting and a nudge to walk the woman up. When she eventually became alert enough to understand what was happening, Officer Prendergast asked her to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was then arrested for Having Physical Control of a Vehicle While Under the Influence. She was transported to the Lakewood Jail, where she refused to submit to a breath test. Her case is still open. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
