An erratic driver's roadside stop quickly reveals a complex web of evasions, an an uninsured vehicle, and questions about impairment. On April 23, 2022, a patrolman observed a 2013 BMW driving erratically, failing to maintain its lane on Route 36. After a K-turn and pursuit, the vehicle was stopped on Hillside Avenue, where the driver, a 37-year-old woman, exhibited slurred speech and confusion regarding the traffic infraction. Officers noted damage on the car's front bumper and, suspecting intoxication, administered field sobriety tests which she struggled to complete, despite denying alcohol consumption. Her inability to perform the tests, combined with the traffic violations and the discovery of an uninsured, out-of-state vehicle, led to her arrest for driving under the influence.
