On September 12, 2024, at 2:02 PM, Arkansas State Police Corporal Desmond Benton initiated a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 49 near the 68-mile marker in Washington County, Arkansas. While patrolling the interstate, Cpl. Benton observed a mint green sport bike and a dark green BMW traveling alongside each other at normal speeds. Suddenly, both vehicles accelerated rapidly, prompting Cpl. Benton to initiate a pursuit southbound on I-49. The BMW sped ahead and took Exit 67A, with the sport bike following. Cpl. Benton managed to catch up to the motorcycle, but lost visual contact with the BMW. The pursuit continued through Highway 112, Van Asche Drive, Greg Street, and Drake Street, with the motorcycle weaving through traffic and even driving against oncoming vehicles. The chase ended near Garland Avenue, where heavy traffic caused Cpl. Benton to lose sight of the sport bike, forcing troopers to terminate the pursuit. Despite a search of the area, neither vehicle nor the suspects were located.
