On July 19, 2024, Officers from the Rio Rancho Police Department were working DWI Saturation Patrol when Sgt. Saida observed a vehicle which failed to maintain its lane of travel. Sgt. Saida initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was driven by a 16-year-old girl. The police report indicates that Sgt. Saida detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Initially the girl denied consuming alcohol, but after Sgt. Saida told her that he could smell alcohol, she admitted to consuming one "Twisted Tea". She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the FSTs, she was asked to submit to a portable breath test (PBT), which she refused to consent to. She was placed under arrest and was transported to the police station. At the police station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.09% BAC.
