On July 17, 2025, at approximately 8:59 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a blue minivan in reference to a stop sign violation. Upon approaching the driver’s side, the deputy made contact with a white female who was operating the vehicle. The deputy introduced himself and explained the reason for the stop. The driver immediately denied committing the traffic infraction. When asked to provide her driver’s license, registration, and insurance, the female stated, “I’ll show you my license, I don’t ever let anyone hold it.” She then held the license in the air and refused to physically hand it over. After the deputy advised her that he needed to conduct a license query, he reached for the license, but the driver pulled it away to prevent him from retrieving it. The deputy gave several verbal instructions and attempted to explain the situation, but the female repeatedly replied, “No sir.” Due to her continued noncompliance, the deputy requested backup and a supervisor. Upon returning to the vehicle with an additional unit, the deputy again requested the documents. The driver provided her registration and insurance but continued to withhold her license, stating, “I am not required to hand you my license.” Attempts were made to explain the legal basis for her removal from the vehicle, including citing Pennsylvania v. Mimms, but the female repeatedly interrupted and refused to comply. When ordered to exit the vehicle, she replied, “No sir.” The deputy attempted to open the door, which was locked. After unlocking and opening it, he gave repeated lawful commands for her to exit. She remained inside, continuing to argue for approximately one minute and fifty seconds. The deputy then briefly separated from the vehicle to confer with his supervisor and explain the situation. Following the discussion, the female was placed under arrest for violating Florida Statute 843.02 (Resisting Officer Without Violence). She was informed that the vehicle would be towed and subjected to an inventory search to document valuable items. The female continued to argue during this process and was secured in the back of the patrol vehicle. She was then transported to the county inmate facility. The vehicle was removed from the scene by a tow company. A verbal warning was issued for the original traffic violation. The incident was recorded on the deputy’s Axon body-worn camera and will be uploaded to evidence.com.
