Witness the critical moments of a roadside stop as an officer's suspicion leads to a young driver's difficult choices. An officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving erratically, swerving and following too closely. Upon making contact with the driver, it was quickly noted that her license indicated she was under the legal drinking age. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol prior to getting behind the wheel. As field sobriety exercises began, a passenger repeatedly interfered, receiving a warning for potential obstruction. Despite these distractions, the driver struggled significantly with the One Leg Stand and Walk and Turn tests, failing to maintain balance and follow instructions, and exhibited slurred speech during verbal assessments. Based on the observed driving patterns, statements, and the inability to complete the exercises adequately, the driver was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. The situation escalated further when the driver refused to submit to a chemical test and subsequently invoked her Miranda rights, leading to additional summonses for reckless driving, traffic on marked lanes, and following too closely. This incident provides a stark look at the consequences of impaired driving and the procedural complexities officers navigate during such encounters.
