The Reno Police Department has released new information about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on November 18 at 1010 W. 4th Street, following a series of incidents involving 25-year-old Kristopher Gari. Timeline of Events: November 16: Just before 11:00 p.m., officers stopped an unlicensed vehicle on Sutro Street. Gari, the driver, was found to have a revoked license and an active arrest warrant. When officers attempted to detain him, Gari resisted and fled in his car. Police were unable to locate him or the vehicle. November 17: Around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to Twin Lakes Drive for reports of a suspicious car on private property. They identified it as the vehicle from the previous night's incident. When Gari attempted to return to the car, officers tried another traffic stop, but he fled again, damaging several patrol vehicles in the process. Once more, officers were unable to find him. November 18: At approximately 1:40 a.m., an officer on proactive patrol spotted Gari in his vehicle on W. 4th Street. While trying to arrest him, the officer entered Gari’s car. A struggle ensued as Gari ignored commands and drove off with the officer still inside. The vehicle ultimately crashed, but Gari attempted to restart it and continued resisting. He began driving on the wrong side of the road, forcing the officer to draw his firearm. When Gari grabbed the officer’s gun, the officer fired. Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene, but Gari was pronounced dead. Gari had been wanted on multiple charges, including resisting a public officer, eluding, reckless driving, and other traffic violations stemming from earlier incidents.
