A late-night call for a firearm discharge leads officers to a woman whose contradictory statements and concealed weapon unravel a tense situation. Responding to reports of a handgun discharged into the air following an argument on December 18, 2022, officers with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department located a shell casing near the scene. A witness described a female wearing a white shirt and plaid skirt, leading officers to a nearby establishment where a worker identified the suspect, 21-year-old Valerie, in a dressing room. Upon contact, Valerie initially claimed another female was the shooter and denied possessing the weapon, despite admitting to being drunk and making conflicting statements about a purse. Officers subsequently located a loaded GLOCK 9mm handgun in a holster concealed under her skirt.
