On July 1st, 2025, just after 12:40 a.m., New York State Troopers responded to a 911 call for a domestic dispute involving a knife on O’Neil Road in Norfolk, New York. Deputies arrived at an RV on the property, where 47-year-old Bernie Russo exited after commands. He was restrained with handcuffs and leg restraints while resisting on the ground. Moments later, Russo stated, "I can't breathe," before becoming unresponsive. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
