Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 12:00 AM on January 21, 2022, Officer Kyren Sharpe from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department saw a white 2020 Mustang run a red light at the intersection of West Broad Street and Camila Road. He turned on his emergency lights to pull the car over. As the Mustang continued east on West Broad Street, Officer Sharpe noticed it was swerving. The car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, but Officer Sharpe told the driver to move to the side on Paris Street. Once the vehicle was parked, he approached the driver, who was a 27-year-old named Jessica. Officer Sharpe smelled alcohol and saw signs that indicated the driver was impaired. He inquired about her whereabouts, and Jessica explained that she was on her way home from working at a restaurant. She also acknowledged having a shot of tequila after her shift. Due to his concerns about her ability to drive, Officer Sharpe requested that Jessica participate in field sobriety tests. The first field sobriety test conducted was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Officer Sharpe noted that Jessica did not show smooth eye movement and exhibited distinct and sustained jerking of the eyes at the maximum position. The second test was the Walk and Turn, where Jessica took the wrong number of steps and used her arms to help keep her balance. The last test was the One Leg Stand, in which Jessica failed to lift her foot correctly and put it down before completing the test. Due to her reckless driving, the smell of alcohol, a visible open beer container, and her own admission of drinking, Officer Sharpe arrested Georgia for driving under the influence. At this point, another officer found an empty 12 oz. beer bottle in the car. After her arrest, Georgia refused to provide blood samples for testing. Officer Sharpe then took her to the Clarke-County Jail, where she received several tickets: DUI – Alcohol – Less Safe (40-6-391(a)(1)), Failure to Maintain Lane/Improper Driving on Road (40-6-48), and Obedience to Traffic Control Devices (40-6-20).
