A routine traffic stop quickly escalates when a driver's erratic behavior and slurred speech signal a deeper issue, leading to a tense DUI investigation. Patrolman Braswell initiated a traffic stop after observing a 2013 BMW driving erratically and failing to maintain its lane. Upon contact, the driver, identified as Mira, exhibited slurred speech and seemed unaware of the reason for the stop, prompting the officer to call for supervisory assistance. Officers O'Donnell and Flores arrived on scene and noted damage to the vehicle's front bumper before attempting to administer a series of field sobriety tests. Despite instruction, Mira struggled significantly with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand exercises, though she completed the alphabet test without error. Following her inability to perform the tests adequately and her subsequent refusal to submit to a chemical breath test at headquarters, she was arrested for driving under the influence and released with multiple summonses. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
