Yeah, he was, "Show me the room. Show me the room." What are you talking about? What are you talking about? He grabbed me by the neck. He put me against the wall and he put the knife in my face like this. He didn't do anything with the knife, but he touched my lip and he busted open immediately >> cuz it was so sharp that he cut your leg. >> How'd you get away? >> I saw him and the security coming in and as soon as that came in, he screamed, "Run away, run away." And then all of a sudden, the guy once once he pulled the knife, he went to ask him, "What's your deal? what's your problem? And he had the knife going to attack him. I ran. I ran back there and I told I told Carla, "Please call [music] the police. Call the police. He has a knife." >> I believe he grabbed him by the neck as well. And he placed the knife by his mouth cutting him. So he's he's on his on his way to the hospital. Everything is okay here. He's gone. Okay. You want to get your your license, man? This suspect was charged with one count of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of depriving a law enforcement officer of means of protection, and two counts of resisting with violence. He is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. This next case shows officers come across yet another machete wielding man who wre havoc in a hotel. >> DROP THE KNIFE. >> DROP IT. >> ZACH, LEFT. LETHAL LESS LETHAL. DROP THE KNIFE. DROP THE KNIFE. And then he he pulled his um the machete and he said that I'm going to kill you because you let my girlfriend die. Where where was he standing when he said that? >> He was standing here and then there was those glassy glass that is supposed to be brought in >> that area. >> Did he swing it at you? >> Swing the machete. >> Do you have that on camera? >> Yes. Well, yes, of course. Because everything on camera swing the machete and those things fell down and then he said, "I'm going to kill you." And then >> did he try to come around there after you? >> He told me to get out so that so that so that you can kill me. And I told him, um, sir, it wasn't me. He started to go around. When I see him going around, I dropped the counter and then he went back again. >> So, he tried to come after you. >> Yes. >> Saying, "I'm going to kill you." >> Yes. He >> after he already swung it at you. >> Yes, sir. He I mean, I wasn't going to make it. He went the second time. I just grabbed my keys and I waited for him to go around. And when he was there, I just ran to my car and I left. Where were you at when he swung? Were you like standing here talking to him when he swung? >> I was sitting down. I was sitting down. I was, you know, talking to him at first. >> Oh, then he just And then >> I'm going to kill you and >> and then those thing those thing fell on me. >> This suspect was charged with attempted first-degree [music] murder, armed burglary, armed kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, [music] tampering with a witness to hinder communications with law enforcement, false imprisonment with a weapon, criminal mischief, and resisting without violence. He is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. >> Cops fear two kinds of moments. The blade coming at you and the hand going for something that was never theirs, your gun. And these two videos show both backto-back the kind of insanity you don't forget. You walk into that lobby and you see a man sitting calm behind a concier's desk like he's waiting to check someone in. Then he stands up with a machete big enough to clear the brush. That's because danger does not always storm the room screaming. Sometimes it starts with someone who looks put together and then they try to carve you open in 5 seconds. The moment he walk towards the officers with the blade, you could feel it coming. And commands mean absolutely nothing to a mind already detached from anything resembling normal. That's the part that kept me up at night because I was forced to judge a person's intentions faster than I could process a thought. And one wrong read could have people reading your obituary. Before cops even arrived, this guy had already proved exactly who he was. And that's someone who doesn't hesitate to hurt someone. These encounters are not about the blade or the gun grab. They're about how fast a human being can turn from being quiet to lethal. Officers rarely get warnings. They get seconds. And when you have to read intentions on the fly, knowing one wrong call can mean the end of someone's existence. It's extremely scary. That's the lesson. The danger isn't always the weapon. And it's the moment you realize that you need to fight for your life and you better
