This begins as a call about an accident [music] where this woman appears to be the victim. But as officers investigate, they realize they are dealing with an entirely different situation. And this alleged victim is [music] not going to make things easy for them. >> I sat there AND WAITED FOR YOU GUYS TO get there. Now I'm the one in the backseat of a police car. >> What was she doing? >> Stop that. >> That's what she want to do. Around 4:48 p.m. on March 30th, 2024, Bloit police officers are dispatched to an area in Rock County, Wisconsin after receiving report of an accident with probable injuries. But when they arrive, they don't yet know that the accident is soon going to become the least of their concerns. >> 322. There's no one in this vehicle. >> Excuse me, ma'am. Were you a part of the crash, ma'am? Were you a part of this crash here? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What's your name? >> Okay. Were you in this vehicle? >> Yeah. >> All right. Do you need EMS? No. >> Okay. What's your name? What happened today? All right. Let's Can we take some deep breaths for me? I really want to help you, but it's hard to do that if you can't tell me what's going on. Okay. No, nobody went through that right now. >> She's saying she's going to run her real quick. >> Yeah. >> Are you okay, dude? [snorts] Are you hurt at all? >> Why are you crying? Officer Homeman. Okay. Trying to figure out what's wrong. All right. Hey, can you help me out? Can you explain to me what's going on? >> The 27-year-old woman looks clearly disturbed [music] by whatever caused the accident. But as officers try to get answers from her, they soon realize that all is not what it seems. >> Is anybody else hurt? >> No. Our own. [laughter] >> What' they leave you for? >> I mean, I see all the airbags like they're deployed. Was anybody like bleed or anything? Just your friends or your family? Are you you just crying cuz you're stressed out? You crying cuz you're scared? Was it your car? >> Yeah. >> How many people were in the car with you? >> Who? >> Is it your boyfriend or something? >> Yeah. >> You're not in trouble. You're not in trouble. Okay. Accidents happen. >> No. >> He did it. How did he do it? >> He crashed the wheel. >> [laughter] >> Why did he grab the steering wheel? >> Because I was leaving. My stuff is in the back seat of the car. I was leaving. >> Oh, you guys were like breaking up, you know. Was he trying to get you to pull over or was he trying to get you to hit something? >> She's the only one with the car. >> Yeah. Um, it actually looks like she hit this pole. I don't think another car is involved. Um, >> she's the driver. We're assuming so far. >> I think so. When I tried talking to her, I got crying. Um, so he's trying now. It looks like she hit this pole. I don't know cuz I tried talking to her and I couldn't get anything. We're not quite sure. Dispatch said something along the lines of someone maybe made her do it. This looks like a single car crash. Looks like she hit this pole and she was just sitting there when I showed up. Yeah, but the problem is she said someone made her boyfriend grab the steering wheel and then we took off afterwards. >> Boyfriend grabbed the steering wheel. >> Yeah. I don't know what she did though. Oh yeah. Yeah. >> Dispatch informs officers that during her 911 call, the woman said her boyfriend had made her crash the car before getting into a white van that was waiting nearby and leaving the area. They also confirmed the vehicle's temporary Illinois license plate is expired. However, getting the woman to confirm any of this or clearly explain how her boyfriend allegedly caused the crash is proving to be a challenge. >> There's something wrong with your your mouth. Okay. [snorts] You keep putting your hand up there. I'm I'm something's wrong. >> I'm just trying I'm trying not to cry. >> Okay. What would you like to do about him grabbing your steering wheel? Does he cause the accident? He's at fault. Where does he live at? >> I don't I don't know. I don't know. He usually comes to see me. I don't know. >> What's your What's your boyfriend's name? >> [laughter] >> With the woman unwilling to reveal any details about her boyfriend or the events leading up to the accident, officers have no choice but to speak with other witnesses who also called 911. But while one officer speaks with those witnesses, the officers notice a strong smell of alcohol coming from her car and find a pack of alcohol inside, an empty glass that smells of alcohol, and a discarded empty can near the crash site. But what they eventually find inside the woman's purse will change the entire nature of the case. >> Hi Lori, this is Officer Holman with the City of Blood Police Department. I uh was advised you might have seen this accident over here. >> I didn't see all of it. I heard more of it, but I turned immediately around and saw and heard some things. How can I help? >> Okay. What did you see in here? >> So, I was walking with my partner. We just kind of stopped and turned around like, is everybody okay? >> Saw that the airbags had deployed. um another car which was on the street which was headed in the same direction we were walking kind of pulled in and the gentleman got out of the car and I can only surmise he he went to the vehicle to see if they were okay but he left right away and then the passenger got out of the car the the car that was up on the curb >> and he walked to the street and there was a white van on the street that he got into and they drove away. The guy that got in the car and drove away, I would say. And you know, let me talk to my partner, too. He was a tall >> wearing wearing black clothing. Picky, >> African-American, tall, probably over six feet, >> stocky, wearing black clothing, but I saw him more from the back than from the front. >> Okay. Thank you very much. I appreciate your time. >> Please leave me alone over there. Please >> go over there. Please go over there. I'm put I'm asking >> I'm giving you a long order to go over there. >> I'm asking. I've been sitting there this whole time. >> So, I'm getting up. >> This is an investigation right now. You're not leaving for the street. >> I'm walking. I Where am I going? >> Oh, I don't know. When I were in the middle of the street, >> my granddad is over there. If I wanted to go over there and leave the street and there's a car coming. >> My grandad is over there. My granddad is over there. If I wanted to leave, I would be trying to go that way. >> I'm over here getting air. Where the like seriously, where am I going? My granddad is over there. >> Just stay over there. >> I haven't gone anywhere. Just stay. >> I haven't gone anywhere. >> Just stay over. I haven't gone anywhere. Just stay over there. >> I'm getting here. I haven't gone anywhere. I haven't gone anywhere. If I want to leave, my granddad is over there. Stay over there. >> I'm My granddad is over there. If I want to leave, stay over there. >> My granddad is over there. >> I didn't walk towards his car or anything. I'm getting air. I'm getting air. >> Everywhere. >> Of course it is. >> And then also to help you smoke the cigarette, but you can't breathe. Is she being difficult? >> Okay. Well, she's going to get some tickets if she doesn't. >> She's about to get arrested. >> There are four beer cans missing >> and her behavior. Something's not right. So, it's what I see people that are impaired cuz I feel like she's got something going on. >> Why are you Why are you sitting out here in the middle of the the parking spot, my man? Why are you sitting out here? You know, this is where cars drive. I got to ask you and I I need you to be honest with me. Okay. >> Mhm. >> How much have you had to drink today? >> Just be honest. >> Two or three beers. >> Okay. >> Did you throw the beer over here in the bushes cuz it matches all the beers that are in your car? >> No. >> When's the last time you drank? >> Um about an hour and a half maybe. >> Were you and your your man both drinking? >> Yeah. >> That's kind of Is that kind of factor into you guys' argument? >> We were at the house. You only had four beers. Maybe >> three. >> Three, >> maybe. >> Okay. Whose car did he get into when he left? Whose white van was that? >> I don't know who that is. I don't know. >> Okay. Were they just following behind you the whole time? You didn't notice? >> I don't I don't know. >> Was he trying to stop you from driving cuz you thought you were drunk? >> No, he was just trying to stop me from driving. Period. >> You want to go through SFSTs to show if you're impaired or not? We'll go through >> because he's trying to stop you from from driving drunk. >> It has nothing to do with that. >> You want to go through SFST to prove you're not drunk? >> Okay. >> All right. You want to just put your bag down there for me in the grass before we start? Do you have any issue with your eyes? You do you have like dead eye? Anything like that? You have any issues? You wear contacts? >> I am a little blind, but >> a little blind. What do you mean by a little blind? >> I mean, I wear glasses, but I don't wear them all. >> Okay. Would you be able to follow the tip of my finger about this far away? What I'm going to do during this test, I'm going to have you put your feet together, your hands down by your side during the test. Just follow the tip of my finger with your eyes and your eyes only and don't move your head. You understand? You have any questions about that? As the woman takes the field sobriety tests, her grandfather is allowed to take some of her belongings with him. With no information about her boyfriend or where he went after the accident, officers come to realize that the woman was the one driving the car while under the influence of alcohol. And as the tests come to an end, officers [music] reach a decision that completely changes the woman's attitude towards them. >> So based on this, your eyes are bouncing like crazy. Did you seriously only have four viewers? >> Yes. >> Something's not right like that. >> I didn't have four. I >> three three. Okay. How long did you have them? You said an hour ago. Yeah. >> Your eyes are going crazy when as soon as I do HGN, they're bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce. >> Eyes are always like that though because I mean, like I said, I'm blind to a certain extent. I I really am. It's it's an involuntary jerking of the eye. It's not something that anything else going to affect other than a traumatic brain injury. >> I do that all the time. >> You don't have any other indicators something's wrong. You just seem drunk. So, I'm going to do now I'm have you under arrest. Throw WI. >> Okay. Okay. Let's head over my squad right here. Okay. Can you just stop? What are you doing? Why you >> drink? Because y'all tweaking for because I shouldn't even be arrested for one. >> Yeah. The one that should be arrested with me. >> Yep. This is how it works. Whatever's on here. >> Give my purse and my phone to my auntie. >> Oh, perfect. Thank you. >> What do you have on you that's gonna hurt me? >> Look for what you do. >> I'm standing here. >> As good as it's going to get street car. >> I'm standing here. >> I'm standing here. >> Can I have my shoe? >> Yeah, I got it. Slide up. >> Can I have my shoe? >> Yeah, I'll grab it in a second. Once you get up there, >> can I have my shoe? >> Can I have slide up in there? >> My shoe. >> Slide in there. Look. Here you go. Your shoes right there. Slide your foot in there. Why you acting like this? Just slide the [ __ ] on. Y'all some clowns, man. Y'all can't solve a murder. I don't want that on. >> You have to have it on. >> I don't want that on. I don't want that on. >> I don't want that on. >> I don't want that on. >> I don't want that on. >> I don't want it on. I don't want it on. >> Goodness. >> I don't want it on. >> Just relax for a bit. >> Yeah. She's being arrested right now. We're verifying a few things right now to see if it would be either a book and release or she'd have to go up to jail. Okay. >> Also, she might just be get in and get out. >> I'm I'm not sure. We have to We have to >> But if that's not happening, could we pay money for her to come home >> potentially after she goes up to the jail? Yep. >> So, I'm going to go home. I'm sure y'all got it. There's nothing more I have to do. >> Yep. If she has your phone number, she can call you, let you know what's going on when she gets wherever she's going. >> And then you guys can sort that out so you don't have to keep standing out here. Okay. >> All right. >> All right. Now you guys taking my taser and everything. I need that. >> I need that. People be trying to hurt me. I need that. >> What? What? What am I being charged with? >> So my partner [laughter] looked at the statue for the taser. He said it is. class maybe a class F. >> I don't know what that means. >> It's it's a felony. You can't have it at all. I will have to confirm um like the severity [snorts] of it. It's a felony though. >> As the primary scene comes to a close, officers decide to bring the woman to the hospital for [music] blood work. But what they don't expect is for her resistance to escalate further, eventually causing more havoc than they ever anticipated. >> My hands are out of the handcuffs. >> Really? [snorts] Let me see. >> How the hell did you do that? Is your gum okay? Of course it is. >> Okay. I mean, I checked the fit on those with my phone. >> I stayed there. I called you guys and I'm the one that's going to jail. This is not fair at all. >> As the woman continues making desperate attempts to get out of the squad and blame her boyfriend for the entire situation. Her behavior will soon turn aggressive while she remains uncuffed in the back of the squad. >> Now I got an attitude. I'm pissed NOW BECAUSE I CALLED YOU GUYS FOR HELP. THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT. THAT'S WHAT THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT UNDERSTANDING. I SAT THERE AND WAITED FOR YOU GUYS TO GET THERE. I WAS THE ONE ON THE PHONE. THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT UNDERSTANDING. Now I'm the one in the backseat of a police car. Like, what police work are you guys doing? >> I sat there and waited for you guys to come >> to read this for you. >> I don't want to hear any of >> I still have >> I don't want to hear any of that. >> Will you submit to an evidentary chemical test of your black? Why is it that? Because I called for help. I'm in the backseat of a police car. >> Did you Did you listen to anything I said? >> Because you didn't you didn't answer my question. I'm going to write a search warrant for your blood. Okay. So, you're going to just sit back here until I'm finished and then once we're finished with that and the judge signs off on it, we'll get you out and we'll go. [laughter] Okay. But getting that search warrant is going to take some time, giving the woman plenty of opportunity to keep blaming the officers, insist on her innocence, and even resort to unexpected violence. >> She can have it. >> Stop that. Get me out. >> Why would he let you out if this is how you're acting? >> Because you HAVEN'T LET ME OUT YET. AIN'T NO WHY WOULD YOU LET ME OUT? I'VE BEEN ASKED YOU BEFORE I DID. >> You a whole clown, man. Do you guys see all the bruises and marks? This is why I don't CALL YOU GUYS NOW. I get abused. >> Let me out. Let me out. >> Stop that. >> Let me out. >> What are you doing? >> Let me out. >> I'm not letting you out. You'll get let out when the warrant is signed. >> Let me out. >> The woman eventually breaks the squad camera. And once the search warrant arrives, officers attempt to get her out of the squad, but it's not going to be easy as she has another trick up her sleeve. She uh pulled out the cords and broke the camera back there. >> Oh, so now we got now we got criminal damage and robbery. >> Yep. >> If you if you fight us, it will be extra charges and you will sit in jail for a long time. >> Take her this way. There's one. >> What does she want to do? >> Not doing that. Let go. >> We're not doing that. You're not doing that. See, you're being uncooperative to put the handcuffs on tight so she doesn't slip out of them again. >> So, you got another sucks. >> There you go. >> My shoes. You did it there. >> Yep. That's fine. >> While officers have managed to get her inside the hospital, convincing her to provide a blood sample is going to be a whole other battle. >> I'm not. So, >> I'm not doing any of this. I don't care. I don't care. >> I don't care. >> I don't care. I don't care. I don't care. And I'm not doing any of this. >> Finally, after a lot of arguing and shouting, the woman agrees to the blood work. But as she is finally being taken to jail, she finds yet another problem. >> Yeah. You want to stand up for me? Hands on your back. Put your blood. >> Please. Not so tight. >> Don't take them off. They're >> nice. Just please. Just please. I'm not taking them off. God damn. What do you mean? You took him off of my car. >> All right, take her. >> There's no reason to be a risk. >> I've seen her drive. >> No, I don't want to know. >> She's not as bad as you. She doesn't crash. >> But you need to see that. >> That's not funny cuz I didn't do that. That's not even funny. >> Okay, >> that's not that's not a joke. >> As the woman remains quiet for most of the ride to the station, only occasionally asking about her charges. But once they arrive, she speaks with the sergeant about the felony charge before suddenly getting up from her seat in the booking room and declaring that she was leaving. H this triggers another struggle, forcing officers to cuff her once again. Ultimately, the woman was charged with felony possession of an electric weapon, misdemeanor, resisting obstructing an officer, criminal damage to property, obstructing an officer. She was later released on a $1,000 signature bond. Eventually, all the charges were dismissed after she successfully completed a deferred prosecution agreement. Want to step up your style?
