I I found my dad dead in in his apartment. >> Oh lord, HAVE MERCY, JESUS. >> [screaming] >> A family's hunt for their missing loved one ends in a gruesome discovery, but their quest for answers from the last known person to see him alive won't come easy. On November 29th, 2024, a 15-year-old calls 911 in Broward County, Florida, to report finding the body of his father, 46-year-old Jason Bloomfield. >> Are you with him now? >> Hello? No, no, I'm not I want to go in there. It's um it's I'm good. Um just tell me tell me tell police. >> Sir, we need to get him some help until the units arrive. We don't know how long this has been going on for. If someone could please get on the line. >> He's dead. He's gone. >> Okay, tell me why you think that. What exactly did you see? >> The teen struggles to explain what he saw, and once first responders arrive at the scene, they quickly understand why. >> He's laying like face down. He's starting to decompose a little bit, but there's like weird pieces of clothing that have blood all over on them. >> Okay. >> It's weird looking. They keep yelling about someone killed him. >> Jason's mother and son describe what they noticed as soon as they entered his home that morning. >> Went in. Automatically um a fly flew out. That's not my dad, okay? If you met my dad before, that didn't smell good. >> What did you see when you came in? >> What happened? >> Everything was regular. The living room was regular, everything. The >> He don't have nothing in there. >> Mhm. >> I'm saying the bathroom was regular except for the clothes. It was to um then with a pillow on it. >> It was what? >> A pillow with a pillow on it. We went back to the living room. I'm saying Grandma was like, "Okay, um what's this what let's see what's this what what's this other door right here?" >> Right. I said, "Open this door." >> the door. >> Wait wait a minute, you moved the couch. >> Yeah, exactly. >> Someone pulled that couch out and put him in the closet. >> The room Jason's body is found in is blocked by a couch. Under it, detectives find dried blood with drag marks, while bedding found in the shower appears to have been cleaned. As officers piece the scene together, their attention turns to the youngest relative there. >> I want to go home. >> I know, baby girl. I know. >> I don't want to stay. He saw him on a bed sheet with his clothes off him, naked. And then he saw his head chopped off on the floor. And he had shotgun on his neck. >> He was trauma, man. I know, yeah. Trauma. >> Right. >> Mess up the rest of her life. >> And they said he she ate his meat. She ate his his like his body when he take off his skin, take off his >> Who says that? >> My my family over there. >> While their account may not be entirely accurate, the little girl mentioned something investigators will later confirm, gunshot wounds on Jason's body. Detectives also find bullet casings at the scene, including two inside a bottle of bleach, and more hidden under a mattress. >> He had a gun and his gun is gone. >> So it was inside the house? >> Yeah. That's the gun she bought to shoot him with. >> You told him that? >> Yes, it's after one of them. It's the bullets in the um it's the bullets in the drawer under >> Officers learn that Jason's family had last heard from him one week ago, and that they made attempts to locate him through his neighbors. >> When when when was the first time we came? >> That was Tuesday. >> Tuesday. Knocked on the door and I >> No. >> You didn't even knock? Nothing? >> I She said she >> See him at all? The car wasn't here, nothing? >> Okay, that makes sense. >> We left. >> Jason's family had not seen him for several days. As news of his death spreads, his 37-year-old girlfriend, VeAnita Linen, arrives after receiving a text from Jason's sister. She learns quickly, however, that she is not welcome at his home. >> Stand over here. Stand over here. >> I don't want to stay. Do you have a heart issue? >> Okay. >> Okay. I'll bring you out. Do you have a heart issue? I'm >> now. >> Lock all the doors. >> Is he okay though? Cuz the way y'all out here is the It was crazy. She said when she said he's dead, all she said was Jason been found dead. I know he has heart problems and I know but the way you guys are out here is like it is a big >> Yeah, I thought she was talking about the dog or something. Dead, I'm like I hope better is okay. But then when I seen Jason, I almost passed the [ __ ] out. I almost was like I have I ain't going to say I'm like oh oh spiritual guru but I have premonition visions of things. You know, like feeling You know you get that eerie feeling. You go in any area, you could be all right. But when you go in a certain certain area, you be like mm. >> Somebody 2020 >> Somebody intuitively can feel >> Damn, bro. >> That's what happened. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED. >> OH MY GOD. OH. PLEASE, THE POLICE COULD HAVE did something. They could have seen something. It's not fair. THIS IS NOT FAIR. >> JASON'S AUTOPSY performed on the 30th of November 2024 shows that he was shot approximately 12 times in the face, head, back, and arm. His sister recounts the last messages she received from his number. >> Friday when I got home, I text I said, "Jason, have you got the car fixed yet?" The text said no. I don't know who the text came from. And this is 11:30 Saturday night. I'm okay. You know, me and Rita broke up and stuff. >> How long ago did you guys break up? >> It wasn't a breakup. He just kicked me out. >> When did he kick you out? >> Uh I don't remember the date. I don't >> Like a week, couple days >> No, uh >> A month or two? >> 2 days before Thanksgiving. >> Okay. >> I was at my granddaddy's house. he >> Okay, so very, very recent. >> I was at my granddaddy's house. We always fight. Ask him. He always throwing me out, putting my stuff out. Get out. >> It's normal. So, it's >> Yeah, I worry about him. He has seizures. He has heart problems. I go to the doctor with him. Then, he has blood clots in his leg. He had to have his foot amputated. He's going through a lot. He was depressed. First of all, when you are depressed manic, you don't care about nobody. He always used to mention, "Oh, go ahead and leave. I already leave so that way I could I could die quick and go back with my dad. I'mma die soon anyway." He gave me that COVID cuz he had COVID a month before. And that was something to stay away he still in the comment breaking in when the little lady died downstairs. I didn't even know that [ __ ] was >> She's a liar. She's a liar. She's a liar. She's a liar. >> In messages sent from Jason's phone to his sister on the 23rd of November 2024, the sender states, "I'm single now and she can't take all the stress that's going on and the car and the living situation and having no hot water. So, whatever." >> Toledo >> Oh, messages too broke. >> I know who the one even is. >> That's not a male message. She was talking about the stress she can't take. She don't He don't give a about no stress about her. >> That's a lie. >> That's a female message. >> I can't I can't make him care about our safety or move. It was mold in there. The roof had caved in on us in the bathroom. He patched it up. It's still leaking while I'm taking a He doesn't care. I said, "It's killing us in here. The bees, the roaches." I'm like like you'll see my face. I'm looking like I'm deteriorating cuz it's like it's a health hazard. It's a health That thing has to be condemned. The whole building. >> While Jason's family alleges Veaynita may know more about his death than she's telling officers, Veaynita steers the conversation toward a married ex-girlfriend of Jason's whom she claims broke their car windows. >> I haven't been from station since staying here lately. She slashed all the tires, broke the windows. It was four the police said they seen the surveillance. It was four people jumped out of a car. They couldn't target the lady because it wasn't her on the camera. So, I was telling him like, "Babe, we need to hurry and move from here." And he was dealing with Tamika and that's like, "Don't let him go." >> I have messages called us before for issues you know. >> We have Me and him have made a police report together. >> Okay. >> It's dangerous, okay, when your car gets vandalized like that. Then she tried to go to his job and run him over. >> What's her name? Do you know? >> Tamika at uh Tamika >> In messages to Jason's sister, Bayanita claimed he left her for a woman named Stephanie and that she hadn't seen him since. She also said she would file a missing person report, but investigators found no record of one. Jason's family disputes her account. >> Who's Tamika? >> Tamika was an old ex-girlfriend. She lives way in North Florida somewhere, has nothing to do with this. Who's Tamika? >> Steph? >> Steph is a girl that is not here, has no idea. >> You don't play dangerous games like that. Especially when you got somebody like me, innocent. I'm innocent. I don't know what's going on. This I'm trying to I'm trying to build a life with this man and he let me turn it up. But I'll be honest. >> See, what I know is she don't make sense cuz he said he'll never go back to any of them. Cuz didn't I tell you both of them both of his exes has a husband. Or he or he has a boyfriend, so come on. You're not going back to that. >> As officers work to resolve the discrepancies, a neighbor helps fill in missing pieces in the timeline. >> So, you heard something that sounded like >> Sounded like somebody pounding on wood. Because I guess it was in the apartment that it happened, so we didn't really hear the gunshot itself. But it was like three or four that we heard. >> At 11:30, she comes knocking on my door asking me if I'm okay that I hear gunshots. She's half naked. She had like a little thing pulled over, but you could see her boobs and her and everything. You could see everything. The first thing she asked me if I'm a snitch. >> Okay. >> And which I found that very odd. Like, what am I going to snitch about if I really don't know you guys like that? Then she's like, "Oh, Jason beats up on me and Jason is very um nasty to me verbally and Jason is always throwing me out, and we're always having fights. But that particular morning, I saw Jason walking the dog because I walk my dog. >> She told you that he left. >> Um I saw it that I saw Jason jumping into a truck, but I think it was a man that was coming out of here that jumped into a black pickup truck. I thought it was him. >> Okay. >> But I guess it wasn't. >> Okay, so when you when you say why did you think it was him? >> Because nobody else comes out of this house unless >> Bayanita says she never saw Jason enter the truck, but takes the neighbor's account as proof that he left her that night. She claims she then gave his dog to the neighbor and left the home. >> When I find he jumped in the truck, I said this is my opportunity to leave. Maybe God is showing me signs of a heart. And where do you think he doesn't leave out the front cuz we have a camera. I haven't been catching him on the camera leaving. >> He's been leaving in a different way, so you >> Yes, so I don't see him, but I don't know who he's been with, but I don't like any of the women cuz I've been seeing the mess they spread. >> But you guys are broken up. >> Yeah, he he broke up with me cuz he beat her up. He I he he forced me to leave. >> But the camera was still in the house when you left. >> It's Yeah, but it's offline. That's why I came outside and I'm like, "Oh, I can't see shit." And I logged off that Twitter quick. >> You wrote what you you wrote about who he left with and blah blah blah. He left with a black truck. >> How can he leave in a black truck, officer, and he's in the closet dead? >> As Bayanita's claims about the cameras waver, a different camera that captured the front of the home that day will determine whether her account holds true. For now, officers piece together Bayanita's movements before and after the shooting. >> Can you describe me the condition of the house when you left that day? >> When I came in the next day before like the day before I found out the door was unlocked cuz I had to keep >> Oh, so you you left him there? >> Yeah, cuz I had to go to work. I had to get my uniforms. He put all my [ __ ] right there by the door. So I'm like, "Okay, that's it. Here. I'm not going I'm finna heart Let's her know. Second day, I got the car. That's when I got her notice second day. Okay, I have a car. Jason ain't been back. So she won't leave nothing. I got the iPhone, so I'm like I have proof to his sister that he was communicating. >> So you you got his iPhone? >> Yeah. It's not working, but I grabbed the phone so that way she knows what's going on. >> According to Veyonita, she never heard from Jason again after they separated. Detectives would later uncover a $500 Zell transfer from Jason to Veyonita and messages sent from his Facebook account not long after his apparent death. For now, officers struggle to get Veyonita into their cruiser. >> And why you need me to sit in your car? I I really want to go home. >> right now, we're just doing our investigation. >> But as far as being interrogated and and you're not letting me I feel like I am cuz you're not you're not letting me leave. >> You're not giving it Okay, let me explain something to you. >> you a statement already. >> Let me explain something to you. >> You're giving me details. >> I'm just cleaning up so I understand. I'm not asking you any questions, any I'm not interrogating you. >> letting me walk with me. So, right now I want to walk to the car, walk to yours. Like I like right now I need >> No, that's not how it works. >> The detective on the case intervenes and officers successfully place Veyonita in their vehicle. During the ride to the station, Veyonita shares more details about her relationship with Jason. >> I feel like, you know, sometimes I feel like you get tricked or something. Like I know you guys won't trick me cuz I'm not I ain't got to hide. I wouldn't be here, you know? >> Yeah. >> I would not be here. And my mom, she plays a lot of partners, too. You see she's really not heartbroken up like that. None of them that even his son, bro. I'm looking at them through the through the window. They don't even look like they give a And I even text him like I got the car. Like he just want to leave. I said, "So, you going to leave me for real?" I text him the last text. And then I text him on Facebook like where are you wherever you at. I hope I've been treated right. I hope you're not being lied to, you know, cuz that's what he you know, you know, I was being lied to. But that's just to get a response out of him. >> Yeah. >> But he never responded. His son has five different personalities. His son has a psychopathic problem. He He sat down and told me one day he He got his mom made him so mad one day he thought of the kids on Mother's Day. And you know how scared I was? I told my I told Jason I was like, "Jason, your son told me some that work, bro. That he has five different personalities. He got a name for each one of them. And he almost he he he he wanted to plot and kill his mother with his little sister to help him like this this this is something but and then I have a message from the mother saying that obviously psychological help. >> During the drive, Vayanita describes another troubled relationship from her past. >> I'm always getting these men like I had a child by sociopath and I didn't even know. I went crazy. I went to jail for that cuz I was I was I heard that man. It's not fair. Well, oh well. I'm still not a bad person for it. I still go to work. I still help homeless people and whoever put puts on my heart, I still do it. And I don't I I just need to choose good of a woman. I can find me another man. I'm very beautiful so I ain't going to let nobody stop my show. They going to miss me. >> As Vayanita continues sharing her story with the officer, Jason's family is left to deal with the aftermath of his passing. >> All right. And if you guys taking in the dog with you? >> Yeah, I have an appointment to surrender her to the >> Society. >> While her owner met a tragic fate, his dog Bella narrowly escapes one of her own. >> I can't share a bed with the sleep so I got a couple of rescue dogs looking >> Okay. Cuz um I understand. So this is this is my thing. I'm a dog lover. I will keep the dog. But that's again >> You keep it. >> Yes. >> Yourself? >> Me, myself and I. >> Personally? >> Yes. >> I understand. >> I would love that. >> Vayanita, now in an interview chair, sheds more light on the tensions in the household before Jason's death. >> He told me open up to me. >> It's okay. >> [gasps] [laughter] >> Take a deep breath. >> The note to his father says when you call I need you. When he told me not to fight him no more cuz I made him get up before. I was like hurry me up. Hurry we got a lot of work. You got to get up go to school. Like don't drive. Get up. [clears throat] And that today he like, uh-uh. You [snorts] just shaking my woman up too much now. Like, too too much. And then that's when he was about to shoot his son. And he called Yeah, he did. Yeah. Yeah, he had a >> What what kind of gun did he have? >> I don't know. I don't know what >> Call it >> It was black and a Ruger. >> Black Ruger? >> I said it right there. 9 mm Ruger. >> A Ruger? 9 mm? >> Yeah. >> Veyanita denies knowing where Jason's phone or gun are. She's allowed to return to her grandfather's home while the investigation continues. According to police reports, she never asked her interviewer how Jason died. >> I know. I know I'm supposed to go over there and get all that. For real. Yeah, I was already leaving. Really? >> Just remember that you can't go back there right now cuz there that's a crime scene right now. All right? >> Yeah, but that's not not my car. Yeah, I >> Like I said, you cannot go back there right now. >> else can go? Cuz shouldn't nobody go over there? >> Like I said, she destroyed He said they'll >> There's no keys to it. >> They'll get up for you, so you have to wait for them. >> Okay, so Shanae can't go to the front. >> No. >> And then how am I going to go to work the next day if I don't have the car? >> In April 2025, detectives recovered footage from a camera across from Jason's home. In the last images of him alive, Jason and Veyanita are seen arriving together before he covers his car and follows her inside. Hours later, neighbors reported noises investigators would associate with the shooting. Despite Veyanita's claim that she left that night, the footage showed her leaving the following morning. >> I don't want my phone sitting in that car. Somebody going to come and steal my [ __ ] >> Cell phone records place Jason and Veyanita's phones at his home when neighbors reported the loud noises. Soon afterward, a call was made from Jason's phone to Veyanita's mother. On May 2nd, 2025, more than 5 months after Jason was found, Veyanita was arrested in connection with his murder. While in custody, detectives monitored her calls and noted her concern about items stored at her grandfather's home. >> Mr. Joseph. Hello. >> Hello. >> It's over. >> Oh, it's over. >> Damn right it is. Hey, Mr. Joseph. >> On May 28th, 2025, detectives located Jason's missing black Ruger 9 mm handgun at VeAnita's grandfather's apartment. Police reports state that ballistic evidence from the weapon matched evidence recovered at the murder scene. Following a grand jury indictment on July 17th, VeAnita was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and fraudulent use of the personal identification of a deceased person. She pled not guilty to both charges, and the case remains ongoing. Get less restricted content and an unfiltered look at our cases.
