On February 17th, 2025, officers were dispatched to a workplace after receiving reports that an employee had committed a battery. Hey. So, I was I was trying to clock in and then one of my coworkers, I asked him if there was a problem because he was eyeing me down as I was parking in the parking lot, right? So, I said, "Do you have a problem?" Not as in fighting words, but as in adult talk. You can say what you have a problem with. So, I I go to clock in, he's like, "Yeah, I got a problem." He comes to me, he pushes me to the ground with both hands. So, I want him arrested for assault. I want to press charges on him. Did anyone witness this? Everybody witnessed it. I just found out about it. He's HR. I literally just walked in. Um the people here sitting there, I have a bunch of witnesses. There's probably a camera in here, one or two. >> Yeah, we're going to want to talk to them. Just for our case, we're going to want to talk to them. Um do you think you'd need a video, Darius? Yes, sir. I could have video. But, let me talk to Ted. Sure. Do you have Ted's number? Hey, uh is this guy like being a problem? No, no, he's just a permit guy. He just runs permits, so I don't know. Is this guy a problem? They said that he was being like physically restrained. Oh, I don't know. So, I was going to look at the video. If you want to talk Do you want me to bring him out here? You want to go in the office? I'm going to go over there. Um would you want to stay with uh Darius? What's up, man? Hey, what happened? Um Seriously just trying to figure out what happened. All right. So, I'm on this main road taking a left into the parking lot. Yeah. And and this this guy is like tailgating me the whole way. Yeah. Um so, I I'm driving down to the parking lot and he's still on my ass. He overtakes me and then he slams on the brakes and now he's in front of me. I got to slam on my brakes. Uh I don't think he realized we both work here. So, I'm like, "Okay." So, I just let it go. I park up. I'm parked in the back. He's also parked in the back. I just dropped it by that point. So, I walk in, there's like the little thing you clock in right here. >> Yeah. So, I clock in. Um and then I come back in here cuz I I work in here for permits. I don't know where it is. So, I grab my stuff for the day. I'm coming back out this door right here and now he's clocking in. And so, I I you know, we we both make eye contact, but I'm like, "You know what? Just drop it." So, I'm walking and then my car my work car is out this way. So, I'm walking this way and he screams out to me, "Can I help you?" or something. So, I'm like, "Okay." So, I walk up to him, like, "Why are you driving like that?" And I pushed him to the floor and then it was just broken up insults at that point. Yeah. Um did anyone else see this altercation? Everyone out there. Everyone did Everyone out there? All right. Um I'm going to need your ID and your phone number. At a minimum, we're going to have to uh report this. Um you understand that you can't push somebody to the ground, right? He shouldn't drive like that. >> Yeah, I know. Yeah. Um So, you're saying you were on 73rd Street when he like brake checked you? Yeah. All right. Um We're going to try to like look at video and talk to the other witnesses and just try to figure out what happened. Hey, what's up? Did you see this altercation? >> Yeah, I saw it. What happened in here? I don't I don't know about what happened outside. What happened in here? They came in, they were arguing with each other and then the other guy in there, Mike, pushed them. They I guess it was to the point where I think where that guy was elevated him and all following him and all this crap. >> So, he pushed him like just Just pushed him like like a fire hydrant, just pushed him like that. He fell He fell to the ground? >> Then he flew back to the wall, let's say. I I stopped it before cuz it it probably would have got worse. Probably would have went to blows eventually, but I just put it there and grabbed him. Um do you have your ID on you? Yeah, oh yeah. I got it. Never had an issue with him. Never, never. His mom I was surprised he's so timid >> even talk. That [ __ ] doesn't even talk to him. No, I know. His mom works here. And he's got a brother, too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They all work here. Never a problem. Never had a problem with >> guy must have been antagonizing him for a while. He must have really pissed him off. Yeah. Hey, um See, officer, we're going to be doing the report here. So, I saw the video. It happened on video. I see you're punching and he walks up and throws you pushes you to the ground. Um I'm going to go talk to him again. I'm going to look at other video coming in and everything. Um to come in through that door. So, we go from here to here and walk all the way back over there to end it, right? And then as I'm coming here to clock in, he's walking that way. I'm like, "Is there a problem?" Cuz he keeps staring at me. It's not fighting words. It's, "Can you communicate What the [ __ ] is the problem?" So, he says, "Yeah, you know what the problem is." And then he pushes me. I got you. So, at the end of the day, I didn't do [ __ ] to him for him to react. I saw the video. I just want to make sure that you never like threatened him >> I I swear to God, I promise you I didn't threaten him. I just talked to him. Oh, hell no. Um do you know the So, you want him arrested? I want him arrested. I want to press charges on him. So, then you'll go to RPD and file a criminal complaint like right right after us. Okay. All right. Um so, we're going to give you that info in a minute. I'm going to go talk to him one more time. I'll So, I'll show my supervisor the video. Um he's going to get arrested and charged with battery. Um but we'll be we'll be in touch with you. Don't leave um cuz if if you don't cooperate with the signing of the complaints and come to RPD and sign them, he gets released without charges. So, >> going to be here, right? So, don't leave. Um all right. So, what exactly do you want me to do? What's my next step? Nothing. Um So, based on the video, this guy is adamant that he wants him arrested. I want to talk to him one more time and make sure that this guy didn't do anything um in the parking lot or anything like that. We got to see video, see if it's a mutual combatants kind of thing. I don't think it is. He's going to end up having to come to the station. He gets charged. >> he touched him. He pushed him. Yeah. So, it's a simple battery. It's a sign and release. Um he's going to be done with us in 45 minutes. We can even tell him probably give him a ride back here. Oh, you guys You have to take him with, right? >> Yeah, he's got We can't do it on the street. What? You're not going to put any handcuffs on the guy, right? Well, with our policy, we have to be in the squad car. So, we can walk him out. >> In the squad car, but not in my building. We'll walk him out. Um cuz he's cooperating. Is he or No, no, he's cool. He's with his family and stuff. We're going to talk to him, so I'm not trying to make a big deal. Okay, yeah, I know. I'm just I'm not trying From what he made it sound like, started [snorts] tailgating, cut in front of him, slammed on the brakes. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I just I'll talk to him one more time, Jimmy. All right. Um so, did he have at any point like threaten you? No, he was instigating. I'm I'm mean, I'm in here. I'm like, "It's all good. Whatever, just drop it. I got my stuff. I'm I'm going to to start my my work." I come out here and as he's clocking in, now he's telling me, "Do we got a problem?" Yeah. It's like, "Why are you still [ __ ] with me?" So, yeah, I pushed him I pushed him to the floor. Yeah, stop [ __ ] with Yeah. I got it. I know you I'm just trying We get it. Um Yeah, so He's in the right to do all that [ __ ] to me, right? But Well, the road rage the the road rage stuff is uh it's never good, but it it if he makes more if he makes no contact and there's only words, there's nothing criminal. Um Pushing somebody is criminal. >> Pushing somebody to the ground is criminal. It's very minor and they seem to really They seem to really respect you here and it sounds like your mom works here. So, we're going to treat We're going to walk you out and we're not going to arrest you in front of all these people and all that stuff. Um it's very It's a very simple process. You're going to be with us. You get charged. You get a court date. Um and then they'll even bring you back to work. It'll It'll be about an hour. It'll The whole process take takes about an >> court date? Am I going to go to jail for this? No, dude. You're going to bring him to the Go to the station, we'll process you, and then you get a court date. At the court date, then the judge decides, you know, if if he even shows up to court. If show up to court, they'll I've never done this before. Yeah, no. It's It's um to us, it's not a big deal. To you, it's a big deal. Um I get it cuz you've never been through it. So, you'll come with us. You get charged with a simple battery misdemeanor, which is very minor. You can even probably work out some program with the court that had up that'll have it expunged off your record. Um it's just going to be a process for you. And if he doesn't even go to court, it just gets thrown out. Um do you have anything any knives or anything on you? We just want to check you. All right, then. If you're okay with walking out with us, we don't have to handcuff you here. If you're okay, yeah, then we'll just walk you out to the squad car. You have to be handcuffed to be in the squad car, but we'll just handcuff you right at the squad car. Was there any contact in the parking lot like with him speaking to you or he was he was just staring you down and being an [ __ ] All right. I got it. Well, you'll be back in a little bit. You'll be You'll be back. As long as they're cool with you coming back. I mean, I guess I'll talk to the hysteria stuff there. You're good right here. Just I'm not trying to embarrass you and stuff. I'm going to just walk out with you and all that. So, now I go to court and judge. Yeah, he wants to he wants to talk to him after he gets back. So, you could leave your leave your stuff. Yeah. Um Dude, you you won't I don't see How How old are you? Uh 24. And you have nothing on your background, right? Slap on the wrist. If anything, you got some street credit around here now. So, we're going to walk you out right now. All right, you've been super cool. I'm going to pat you down here really quick with nobody else around and then we can get you right in the car so it's not too cold, all right? Do you have anything sharp in your pockets? Uh no keys. Wallet? Yeah, wallet. Phone? Yeah. All right, you've been super cool with them. We don't do this a lot, but I'll do in front. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you can say can be used against you in a court or other proceedings. You have the right to a lawyer to advise you come with you during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed to you free of any cost before any questioning. So, I'll give you give you your right back in 25 minutes. If I don't think 25, then I'm going to try and talk to you. All right, come on this way, please. This one? Yep, let me grab the door. Thanks. It's a little tight, but we don't have a long drive.
