He He rammed me. >> Good? >> He rammed my car, dude. >> Yeah. He He tried to ram me as well. >> Guys, is your car is not banged up, right? >> My car is back there. >> Okay, can you bring it over here and just block off this side? >> Mine? >> Yep. >> I He rammed me. >> Yep. >> All right. >> Where are you? >> Who's the driver? >> Driver is in Bridger's car. >> Okay. >> Hey, boss man. I'm just going to read you something real quick, okay? You got the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. >> You send us interstate. We're going to have >> That truck, it's pretty beat up, but I think the tires are all good. Do you understand your rights? All right, what's your name, man? >> Martin. >> Martin, do you have your ID on you? >> No. >> Okay. So, we have three detained. Driver is talking to Cole right now. Few squad cars be up. We'll deal with that later. >> Can you push my glasses up, sir? >> Yeah, I got it. >> Just want to confirm you're you're doing okay, physically. >> I'm fine. >> Okay, getting that your head and Okay. What were >> were you running? >> To be honest, I have no insurance or registration. That's the reason why >> I was scared. >> You got pitted a couple times, you drove out of it. You hit a hit a quite a few vehicles, right? It's it's a substantial so substantial damage. You also drove through a park where there was a whole bunch of kids. >> Yeah, I know. >> Right? This is This is not good. Just for insurance and not having registration up to date, that's another reason. >> Is that the reason you ran like that, dude? Huh? Is that the only reason you ran like that? >> Yeah, it is. >> Do you have anything to drink today at all? >> No. >> Okay. Step out of the car real quick, man. Face the vehicle. Step separate your feet. >> All right, put them in 12 just afterwards. >> Okay. >> Just cuz my car is out of commission. >> Is that why you asked me to do that? >> Yeah. Like I'm not as high as like the ears. >> Oh. >> Is there anything illegal in that vehicle? >> Yeah, fresh car up here. >> Well, let's just put him in here for a minute then. But these cars are damaged. >> Yeah, I was >> worried when I saw you throwing this bike. >> I know. >> Cuz I came around, I pulled into the thing, and he said turned off the road and was coming directly at me. At the last minute, he pulled off. And I like landed. And I like >> I was I was watching him through my window. >> The last thing was you getting hurt. >> Yeah, no, I'd seen him uh Yeah, just >> Just have a seat, dude. >> Just have a seat for now. Just have a seat. >> It takes my car out of commission. >> No, just have a seat. So, seriously, what's the reason you ran, dude? >> Legit, bad I I don't have any registration. I got scared, that's really the reason. >> That's the reason that you put multiple people's eyes in danger, you rammed a police vehicle. >> When did I ram a police vehicle? >> When you went up on the road up here, you came down and rammed my vehicle. >> Yeah, so we'll just figure out if we got any charges for the passengers. >> I mean, if there's nothing else in the car or what not, then no. >> Yeah, we can. >> Nice. >> Yeah. Why'd you stop him? >> Huh? >> What was the reason why >> 70 in a 40. Ripping around cars down Demers. >> What an idiot. >> So I had reckless driving initially. I caught up to him by Washington and that's where he went down 7th and it was on. >> Oh, yeah. I'm just going to move it. Can you get it out of the way? Uh that way it's out of the way and you can hop into another chariot. Did we talk to your buddies to see if like they wanted him to stop? >> I don't know where they're at. >> One passenger >> Did you get the try pits? >> I did. >> You did? >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> That's a good time. >> Yeah, that's the first one I hit him like I thought it was going to be solid and he turned completely and then he just spun straight out of it and went over the side. >> Oh, yeah, that one. >> I went over >> That one looked rambunctious. >> Cuz he like blew up that garbage can there too. >> Yeah. >> Hey, so what was going on, man? >> Look at me. >> Why were we all running? >> I told him to pull over. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Did he say why he ran? >> No, he just he was like I'm taking off and my brother just he pulled over. I'm like you're going 60 in a 40, it's not that big. And then he took off. >> Okay. All right, man. Hang tight. Hey, man. Uh you you were the front seat passenger, right? So so what's going on, man? >> Uh we were about to go play basketball and then that >> Did he say why he ran? >> No, he was just quiet. >> He didn't say anything? >> Did you get a good spike, Boo Boo? >> No, he went on the grass. >> Yeah, he yeeted. >> The one thing most people won't realize during this video is what the Grand [music] Forks dispatcher did when she said When she stated PD is patched with L Tac 1, she connected Grand Forks local police channel into a [music] multi-state tactical channel used across both North Dakota and Minnesota. Both states run 800 MHz [music] digital trunked radio systems that share these law enforcement tactical channels. And when a dispatcher patches a local channel into one of them, every officer monitoring that L TAC in either state instantly hears the pursuit in real time. That's what makes it so powerful [music] during fast-moving incidents. Instead of phone calls between agencies or relayed updates, every cop listening becomes aware [music] of the chase the moment it happens. And you can see that immediately here in this video as a sheriff's deputy jumps in to assist. The driver of the truck was identified as 22-year-old Martin Romo. He was charged with fleeing, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and attempted aggravated [music] assault for using his truck as a weapon during the pursuit. In court, the judge said Romo's actions were homicidal and that he should be locked up for years. Despite that, he ultimately chose to cut Romo a break. Prosecutors ultimately [music] reduced the felony charges to misdemeanors, saying that Romo, who had no criminal history, deserved a chance [music] to rebound from this. Under the plea agreement, he was ordered to serve 10 months in jail and pay nearly $21,000 [music] in damages. The judge admitted he struggled with the decision, but said he wanted to respect the work of [music] the attorneys who negotiated the deal. >> Mr. Romo, in the future, when the police put their little lights on behind you, just [music] pull over.
