We got phone calls from several people that he was dragging you in the car and hitting you and and you got marks on you that [Music] happened [Music] already. >> I ain't talked to nobody but her and him. Well, he got he um >> Hey y'all. >> Can y'all tell me what happened? >> As far as the be or >> Yeah, they saw it. >> What did y'all see? >> So, um it was right here by the where it started. >> Mhm. >> And I had went over there cuz the kid said that they saw like he was hitting or whatever. So I went over there and when I went over there he was on top of her like he had her hair and then he was on top of her and he bit her like on her right arm. >> Mhm. >> That's why I was over there and he go to get out and she was like no. And he was like get out and he was trying to push her and like kick her out and then he came to the side. So I was over by her. I was like Whitney come on. And um she was like no. And I was like man. And so he came over there and he started pulling her out the car. >> Mhm. >> And then I tore her dress and I was like Whitney come on. and she wouldn't let go of the steering wheel. And then I and so he went around to this side and got in the car. She went in the back seat and then he took off. And then and then right here he stopped again and tried to push her out the back of the car. >> And then um next thing he came up from this way like he left right there, but he come back up this way. >> I didn't even know that wrapped around. >> I don't know where there's the woods down there. They left and went out that way. >> There's an opening in the woods. >> Wow. He come from down there. So, >> so we didn't really know, we didn't know whether to get involved in. >> So, for future reference, when stuff like this happen, we don't supposed to get involved in that, dude. >> Like, we don't break it up or none of that cuz see what happened. >> Oh, yeah. She got hurt. >> How' you do that? >> I don't know. When I trying to when I was trying to keep him from pulling her cuz she was backwards and he was jerking like with her clothes. >> So, you tried to help her and >> Yeah. And so, >> she got a little knotted up. >> Yeah. Not enough. No, I'm not. >> If you think it's going to hurt one of y'all or be worse than um if you think it's going to get worse, then yeah, of course. >> Well, when she started saying no, she wasn't getting out. I just >> I mean, we're coming. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, >> Oh, yeah. We seen him coming. >> Yeah. >> Look, y'all can let him go. >> No, we ain't going to let him go. He's going to jail. >> He already got Yeah, he can't eat it. >> Um >> he's already >> He got a prior, but he wants to go for this. Do you have your ID on >> medication? >> Okay. >> We was going going to VA to get back on his medication cuz he's been acting funny and he's been kissing me. Uh uh um he's been kissing me u random people >> like cheating on him. >> Yeah. Okay. I mean, I'm not doing none of that. I've been here with I can't even go to my next door neighbor's house no more because he do that. I stay at home. >> Okay. What started it today? >> Um, [Music] we was at my mama's house when it first started. And then he apologized to me. Came back and apologized to me. >> Was there anything physical at your mama's house or did y'all just argue? >> No, we just argue. >> Okay. >> I mean, we and he got out of the car uh and walked off. Pulled off >> after y'all got home. >> Huh? >> After y'all got home, he got out and walked off? >> No, he walked off at my mama's house. Okay. >> So, what happened after y'all got back home here? >> We went to go get I went and go get something to eat. Go come and he put the baby in the in the crib and um he put the baby in the crib and I was in the car and I said, "You going to get out the car?" >> Where were you at? In the front seat or in the back seat or what? I was in the front. >> Okay. So, how did he hit you? Did he hit you with his fist? Did he slap you? Did he pull your hair? >> No, he didn't pull my hair. He just was pulling on me. >> Pulling on your shirt. So, when he was pulling on you, what was he trying to Was he trying to get you out of the car? Was he trying to pull you back in the car? >> He was trying to get me out of the car. >> Out of the car? Why was he trying to pull you out of the car? to leave. >> He was trying to leave. >> Yeah. >> And you didn't want to get out of the car? >> No, I want to get out of the car. >> He wanted to leave you here by yourself. >> Yeah. I didn't do nothing to him though. We just we just made up at my mama's house. And I was saying when you get down here at my house, he going to flip out again. >> Okay. So, y'all got home. >> Yeah. gave me he gave me a hug and a kiss and he said he was sorry. >> So y'all got home and he took the baby in there and put the baby in the crib and then he came back out and tried to snatch you out of the car. >> Yeah. >> Did he did he hit you at all then? How did you end up in the back seat? >> I end up I craw I craw in the back. >> You crawled in the back. Okay. So after you crawled in the back, what happened then? I guess you crawled back there trying to get away from him. >> Yeah. The >> What happened after you was in the back? Is that when he hit you? >> No, he had hit me. [Music] He just kept on putting on my shirt, telling me to get out. So, he didn't hit you. He never once hit you. How did you get the cut on your face and the cut on your back? >> I don't know. >> You don't know? >> Hey, Barb. >> Trying to help. >> This girl over here tried to help her. >> That girl over there in the car can get her ID. She tried to help her out and he end up >> she end up getting tangled up somehow and she got a knot on her arm. >> Oh, she does. >> Yeah. and all those kids seen it happen too. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> So, he's been acting like this for days. He thinks the FBI is watching him. He thinks that she's part of the FBI. >> Okay. >> He's schizophrenic, right? So, he ain't been knocking me on camera and he refuses to go get on her. But, so he's being weird. Like, I asked him for a lighter the other day like the candle cuz I spot some and he said like he was did not want to give me his lighter. Like, he didn't know what I might do with it. It was just weird. He's acting real weird. And um so today I don't know when it started but when I saw it they were right there like there's her shoe where he pushed her out was trying to push her out. He threw his cup like slam the drink on the ground. >> So >> So that's where they was. >> Did they ever pull down here at any point? >> Yeah. So they left and he tried to push her out the back seat right there cuz she crawled the back seat cuz she went out the car. >> What happened before they left? Did he hit her at all or >> I don't know. I only saw right here. Okay. Yeah. in your house. But um so right here he whenever I came out here he was on top of her. He was then on top of her >> in the car. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then um he was like trying to push her. He was grabbing her hair like like had her his hands on her and then um I was like so I walk around back. I was like what's going on? So what's going on? He's like f this. He was like y'all shit's already going on or something. So I went over there. I was like Whitney get out. Let's go. And she was like no. And I was like, "We get out of the car." She was like, "No." So he's like, "I Logan told you to get out of the car." So he got out of the car and he comes around the front. >> And I put my hand up there on her cuz she's falling to the steering wheel. So she's like head backwards at the door and he was like jerking on her so hard. I knew if he pulled her out. >> So he she was laying in the back seat like this. >> Yeah. She's in the front seat at this time. Okay. >> She don't get in the back seat until he >> So her head's over here at the steering wheel. >> Yeah. Cuz she's holding on to the steering wheel. So her back's facing that way. >> So I knew if he jerked her out with the force he was using, she were going to hit her head. So I had my hand up like this cuz she wouldn't let me get her out. So I had her my hand up like this like holding her in like where she didn't fall. And um so when he found out her dress ripped when that wasn't working he took a drink and like slung it out and then he went and got the driver seat. >> So he was just like trying to forcefully pull her out of the car. Okay. >> And then he went and got the driver's seat and whenever he went in the driver's seat, she jumped in the back seat. >> Okay. >> And so and then he just flew out of here. The passenger door was still open. And then he stopped right there and he got out the car and we watched him and he tried to push or kick her, whatever he was doing out the back seat and she still didn't get out. >> Was he still on the side of the car at that point or did he got out again? >> He got out again up there. >> Okay. >> He got out and went to the back. He came up from the back right there. So he went through the woods somewhere to come. >> Like drove through the woods. >> Yeah, he drove through the woods and came up right here. When he got up the hill, he got in the back seat and when he got out, she grabbed the keys out of the ignition. I think that's right whenever y'all pulled in about that time. >> Okay. >> He then he punched on her again when she got the keys out the ignition. So, this been going on. >> Did you ever see any physical strikes or anything like that? >> Like him physically punch her just grabbing her and pulling on grabbing and pulling is all I saw. Yeah. Oh, and he reached over and bit the out of her arm. >> Her her right arm. cuz he reached over cuz I was standing up. >> He bit her. >> Yeah, right here on her shoulder. >> All right, Miss Hardy, let me read this to you. Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. >> Yeah, I think this work. >> Okay. You want to help me put his seat belt on him? >> Yeah. >> Lean back for me, Mr. Hardy. I'm going to put this seat belt on you. No, >> he didn't bite you today. Can I look at your shoulders? Okay. You want to tell him bye after what he just done to you? >> I mean, if you want to tell him by, I'll let you tell him bye. That's up to you. >> It's just battery and nothing obstruction. >> Huh? >> She never told me how it happened. I'll ask her. Because this is family violence and with the injuries that you have, he's going to jail today for battery. Okay. >> I got injuries, too. >> I didn't just >> and and a med unit came out here and you told him you didn't want him checking on you. And I asked you for your side of the story, and you didn't want to give it to me. >> One side. >> I asked you for your side of the story. You didn't want to talk to me. >> You asked me if I wanted these coms out. and I >> I gave you an opportunity to explain yourself. You didn't want to talk to me. >> You step on out for me, Mr. Hardy. Hey everyone, it's Trent, Prior Deputy Sheriff, Patrol Sergeant, and K-9 handler. So, there were several witnesses that observed this suspect actively hitting his girlfriend, yelling and screaming at her to get out of the car. The officer arrives on scene, and we can see the suspect is still actively engaged in that same behavior, still yelling at her to get out of the car, reaching inside of it, trying to get her out. And the suspect clearly has an attitude and is not going to go with the program, and is obviously disobeying this officer's lawful command when this officer tells him several times to stop what he's doing and get down to the ground. Then the suspect walks over to the driver's side of the vehicle where the door is open and looks like he's about to get inside. He could do a few different things there. He could be going to grab a weapon. He could be getting in the car to drive away. The victim is still in the back seat. This officer does not know the full extent of her injuries at this time. She could need immediate medical attention. The last thing you want to do in this situation is give that suspect access to the interior of that car. whether it is to grab a weapon or to drive away with the victim still in the back seat. And this officer is probably thinking to himself that he were to go hands-on with the suspect, given the suspect's behavior and the fact that the suspect had just committed multiple felonies against his girlfriend, there was a very high probability that that was going to turn into a physical altercation between the officer and the suspect. And to minimize the chances of injury on the officer's behalf, but also on the suspect, this officer decided to go ahead and use the taser, which is considered a less lethal option. And as we see, that gained this officer immediate compliance. Also, in these situations, as an officer where you're going to be talking to a victim of domestic violence, which I myself have done more times than I can count, you want to do that as far away from the suspect as humanly possible. ideally not right next to the patrol car within 12 in of where the suspect is sitting. And it sounds like the officer was not aware of the suspect's potential mental health issues, whether he does have bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. That being said, this officer's job is to protect that innocent woman in this situation that was in the back of that car getting beat up. And also, the suspect still needs to comply with this officer's commands. And that's gonna be it for this one. See you guys in the next one. He was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act and obstruction. [Music]
