On June 23rd, 2023, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene at the local Target for reports of an employee theft at the location. The following shows the body worn camera footage of what happened during the incident. >> Good morning. How are you? >> I'm good. Are we waiting on something? >> Yeah, I got one more guy coming. >> How you doing? >> Good. How are you? >> Pretty good. >> So, what do you guys have going on? We'll be able to talk about it in the office. >> It's a >> Yeah, I saw the number. >> Um, actually, okay. So, she's going to walk by the front here. Is it possible to pull the cars around the side of the building so she doesn't see? >> Sure. Sure. Sure. Sure. >> Yeah. >> Hi. >> Okay. They want us to pull the vehicles inside cuz >> Good morning. Individual's not aware yet. Let's do it. >> Come on in. >> They want us to pull the vehicles inside cuz the individual's not aware yet. So, it's >> Sure. Yeah. We'll be right back. They just >> I think so. Dale grabbed me this morning and said he and Chandler got an email last week and I guess they've been like tracking it and I guess now I guess that was a lucky number. 26,000 I guess. I don't know. I thought maybe like a dollar was enough. >> Yeah, that have been it. >> Yeah, I guess. Round. Jeez. So, I guess um they're going to show us the evidence, you know, if you've got the evidence, we're good. What how we got it to this amount of money? >> That's big boy. >> That's serious money. >> Come on in. >> Thank you, man. >> So, is she here now? >> Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. Excuse [snorts] our >> No, you're all right. You're good. You're good. >> And then the pool that's going to be over here. the found in the trash. >> Oh, yeah. Okay, cool. >> Um, it'll probably be easier to look at that. >> I would pull this one because I didn't bookmark this one when she was doing the switcher. The sides bookmarked. Okay. >> So, pull up. Has >> she done anything yet? >> Oh, yeah. >> We've already done the pre-bag look at. We've already pulled all the large bags out and put them in the 82 bag. >> So, it's already happening. >> So, good news is when you do your investigation, she will have cash on her. >> Oh. Okay. >> So, it'll be Oh, yeah. Your job. >> This her right here. >> Yeah. >> Yes. [snorts] >> This is live. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> So, what is she supposed to be doing? >> So, what she's supposed to be doing is she processes the save. She writes it all down on this little piece of paper and then she's supposed to go through each one of these bags individually and then put all the money from the bag inside of this machine. She should have no money on her whatsoever. >> Okay. >> No money comes out of that that that office. >> Okay. When What does she How have y'all caught her? What have you all seen? >> Yes. So, here we can go in my office and I can give you so on that video, but essentially we got an email from our investigation center um two days ago that this team member was flagging for um like shortages in our cash office process. >> Um >> you want to do that or you want to watch this? >> Your place. Um, so we have obviously we'll have all the evidence and everything ran out for you, >> but essentially while she's doing the cash office process, she is um filtering like she's pulling the high bills from those bags, >> putting them and keeping them in a bag, rolling that bag up, concealing it into a cardboard box, and then when she's done with the cash office process, bringing that box to the restroom, emptying it on her person somewhere, and then throwing that empty box away. So yesterday we did a full review of everything. Um and we even like pulled the trash. It's bagged and tagged up there. Um so we can confirm that she left with cash >> and emptied it in the bathroom. >> Um but she's been doing this. We only have video retention for 30 days. So in the last >> days >> $26,000 of her. is the overview of that for all >> location. >> But this is the live one, but I can show you. >> Does she know? >> She does. Um, but this is a covert camera. So, we put a smoke detector above the ceiling with a camera in it. >> So, we had >> So, she's in that camera. >> We had this view. >> Okay. And so like the way she's moving her hands, um it was pretty. >> You've got footage of her actually like pulling the bills out and >> so yeah, yesterday we made a camera move. So we can confirm over the last 30 days that she's doing this with this camera, but then yesterday's and today's will definitively. >> So you just this camera is new? >> Yes, we put [snorts] it up there. So this has only been here for 24 hours now. Um but we have a video of her doing this on each occasion. So, $26,000 total. Let me go to yesterday. >> I don't know if you guys come to the store a lot, but this also isn't if you ever worked with the LP over here. >> Yeah. Yep. >> Um, he's on vacation. So, I'm from Jacksonville's from Brunswick. >> Oh, he's probably so happy he's here. >> Oh, he's probably >> He doesn't even know this is going on. We haven't called him. >> Oh, shoot. >> I told you going to get back. took vacation. >> Yeah, we moved all of his cameras and they come back and his office is just an overview cuz we didn't want to stand up. >> Okay. >> Cuz I ended up calling you guys cuz I worked with JBP before and under their jurisdiction, all employee theft, they have to get a warrant before they can even talk to somebody. So, I had to I called you guys to make sure you guys could actually come out here and do >> Oh, yeah. If you got proof of it, we can Yeah. I was like, I don't know what your jurisdiction does. >> Oh, yeah. >> So, she filters through, pulls all the big bills, puts them in a single bag. >> That wasn't very slick. Not at all. >> Big bills. >> Oh, no. >> There. >> Are you guys checking out today's? >> We're looking at yesterday's. >> Where do those bags come from? >> These are all from different registers. So, this >> Okay. So those are those are polls from a different register. >> Yes. According to the register >> she decides there's not enough bills there for her >> but she'll go through each bag >> and filter it. So then she transfers it into this bag which is registered. >> I can read it. 82 >> just pulling them into there. >> And then the old bag, put it inside this cardboard box right there. And then she'll leave us where I go to the bathroom. Let me get my cameras. >> That's the bag. >> When she grabbed the Y. >> So when she puts the bag right there, that's when she This is where you're going to watch it. Right here. She put on that box. >> Yeah. So, >> she >> So, the penny box is where she's going to stuff it. But now we're gonna You're going to see Thank God I got this camera. >> You'll see her. >> You worked really hard for God. >> You got to do it in like slowmo. Yeah. Here we go. >> You don't even need it in slowmo where the camera's at. >> Does she know those cameras there? >> Nope. It's a It's like in a fake fire detector. >> There goes that box. stuff away, baby. >> So, this is it. This is it for the for the rest of it. So, she's got it. Yeah. She only does one bag now. >> So, she learned go through all the bags in the beginning. So, she opens every bag when she starts and pulls it and then stuffs one. But yeah, so she's done for this until she walks out. >> Get my stuff in Chris's office. >> Um, >> if you want to grab Oh my gosh. There's a gift card. So, I found my gift card, a Starbucks gift card yesterday on the sales floor when I was vlogging. Um, I already have it bookmarked, too. She took it out of the lock box at the service desk. Tried to add it to her phone and just threw it at the trash. >> Where is it? It's up front of the service desk in the trash. >> In the trash? >> Yeah. Here, >> I made Chris take a picture of it. So, I >> bold. >> So, she just did it. She just rolled it up just now. >> She did. >> Yeah. So where did she put the [snorts] >> It's on her purse. >> Does she like go out to her car after? >> So she's a smoker. So we do have her vehicle yesterday morning, but the camera goes out because of smoke her car. >> I'm going to go and also pull the trash. I think we have video of it. So we walk into the trash can with gloves on, sealed with the trash bag, brought it in here, opened it on camera and confirmed that it was empty. Um, so we've got full ceiling in the box. She goes to the bathroom, >> puts [snorts] one in her purse, and then she goes out for a smoke break. >> So she goes out to her car. >> Okay. That's where she jumps in her car. >> Yeah. It's either in her car or she holds on to it for the day. But we can't So when she walks out right now, she's going to have her in that box. >> So yes, what we're going to do is >> just put it in the box. >> Yeah, it's in the box right now. That's what I'm saying. >> So she's going to leave cash office. >> We're going to let her go to the bathroom and we're going to let her throw it away. As soon as she throws it away, Target is going to pull her to do our interview. >> It's a whole process. It depends on how comp there. It's consual. >> Um, so my goal, I'm going to be interviewing her. My goal is to get her to admit to it. She might, she might not. >> Um, have a whole certification on how to get her to talk to it. So, we'll see. >> Um, we have our [laughter] ways. >> We have our way. >> Yeah, you guys have your ways. I have >> There's the bathroom. >> So, I'm going to get attempt to get her to admit to the fact. Um, she might admit, she might not. And then at the end of my conversation with her, we will terminate her employment. and then at that point we'll turn over to you. Um you guys are welcome to hang out in the office. I don't know if that's going to be a five minute conversation or an hour conversation. [snorts] Really depends on how long how much she wants to talk. She's also in the past gotten verbally argumentative and thrown a mouse at like a computer mouse at someone. >> Okay. >> So if she gets >> if she does that one, we'll just jump in on that. >> Yeah, for sure. >> That's enough. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Um but #charge. >> I know. I'm ready. She's like, "Go. Let's go." >> This is fun stuff. >> Dor. >> Well, once you once you go in there, someone will walk us to that journal. >> She just said she'll So, once you guys complete like all the video review talking through the case, you need to um >> I think we're good. >> They just watched it live. >> Yeah, she just did it live. So, >> okay, cool. Um >> Yeah. Do what you got to do. >> Give me a chance. >> Yeah. Yeah, I get No, I get I get she's like, "Yeah, let's do this." >> I like the energy. >> Thank you. >> How many USBs do we need of today's? Do you want I mean, >> we've got three copies. If we need more than >> Well, I need to do today's download. >> We'll probably just need to put it on. >> How far went back on? How much? >> We've got 30 days. Okay. If she admits to it, no matter what. I mean, between 20,000 and 100 is still the same degree of felony. So, >> either way. >> Either way. >> Yeah. I mean, she might all of it. >> Yeah. It should be beautiful. >> It'd be great. Yeah, >> it'd be really great. >> And then so we're going to let her throw that box away. So according to your chain of custody, do you guys need to go? Is it an empty trash bag right now? Because we just cleaned the trash out. Do you guys need to grab it? Do you want us to grab it and bag it up like we did yesterday? >> I'm not worried about that box that she used to put the money. >> Money bag into it as well. So she leaves the money bag and the box >> in the trash. >> So we'll we'll definitely pull it with gloves and bag it up. That's my >> record. If you all need it, you can take it. But, you know, I'm gonna have a witness in there who will be taking notes. We'll have a copy of that once the interview concludes. >> You said there's no video of the room. Okay. >> Um, there's no video. >> It's pineapples. >> She might yell at me. So, you might probably hear it. >> She won't. She want >> and then I'm going to attempt to get her to sign this admission statement. >> Get a copy of that. >> Yeah, you'll get a copy of everything, don't you? Yeah, man. You guys are guys all I got is throw handcuffs. I thought I was ready to walk. Just turn around. >> I know. >> All right. >> I got I got my email Wednesday at like 10:00 a.m. to come in. So, this has been about 48 hours in the banking, but >> Okay. >> Lots of caffeine, little sleep. >> We're doing great. >> Welcome. This is like our world. >> Um, where do y'all want us right now? >> Um, >> where would we be? So, we're not >> You guys can just hang out in here. Do you want me to do you? >> I got donuts. >> Well, we got to stay in here at least until she shows up until the interview. >> Yeah, there's a whole box of donuts. You're welcome to eat. We'll grab you some waters, too. >> Okay. >> Could you actually go to the check and grab a couple water cooler? So once she's actually done, >> what do y'all usually deal with over here? Is this out of the ordinary? >> Not this much money, but it's it's >> just typical shoplifting, but usually we don't from here especially, we don't catch them here. It's just after the fact. So >> I thought it was a typo. >> Yeah, yesterday we only had 17 and then we found three more dates and that right up to 26. This woman has so many relationships with Nassau County. >> Really? >> Yes. Because she's the HR, so she donates a lot. >> So, you're going to have to watch that part. >> Does a lot of volunteer stuff and donates to Nassau. >> Sorry. Mhm. >> Um the little police dog >> gets here all the time with the handler woman all the time. >> No, sir. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> Um Lucas Dugan. >> Mhm. >> Used to work here. [snorts] >> Knows her. >> Knows her. >> Who? >> Doug. >> Dugen. >> So does uh Captain Tank. >> Captain Tank. So, just so y'all know, she knows. So, >> then she should know better. >> Yep. >> That whole name dropping business doesn't work. >> Yeah. So, cuz Lucas was here and she >> I don't much care who you know. I don't care if you told me you're the sheriff's daughter. >> She should know better. >> Y So, Lindsay is going to have to be prepared to call her at the office. I told Lindsay to to sit in Starbucks um app to like walk her out of the cash office and then like let her go to the bathroom and then sit in Starbucks. That way she throws it away before she sees Lindsay >> and then Lindsay can just swoop up and grab her and bring TSC cuz she's going to think this is all part of a going away party for her. >> We had to cancel a cake. >> Look, today is like the best freaking thing ever. >> Cake for you got a cake for >> cancelled it. which she eating the cake in front of her. [laughter] >> So, you're going to catch her through the exit to over here and then when she comes out the bathroom. [clears throat] >> She's looking around. Which trash can she put it in? >> So, it's just >> 747. >> She dropped into that one. >> She's going to the bathroom. >> So, 7:47 23rd >> in Chris's office. She's already over there. Do you know I'm supposed to face this house when you say exit interview? >> No. No. Just call her to your office. Just call her to your office. >> She want me to grab her? >> Yes. >> I was walk >> I mean you could tell her you have a surprise for her. >> Tell her you have a surprise for her. >> It seems extra. [laughter] >> Yeah. So Lindsay is going to be Lindsay should be over at Starbucks right now and she'll grab her and take her to her office or take her to Chris's office and that's where she'll meet Diana and Ashley in there. >> One last Starbucks. >> Nervous or sad because it's her actual last day. >> Both probably. >> Yeah. >> Well, I don't No, I mean depending on how long she's going to be getting away with this for, like her confidence may be so up that she's not going to do anything about it. >> She wasn't able to get her before she went to the Starbucks line. >> Skyler's making her drink right now. >> Skyler, we don't have time here. >> Get on with this. Hurry up. >> Put some black on, a little bit of cream of sugar. Let's go. >> See what Skyler's doing. probably need to use two such. >> I mean I mean >> unless she's got an attitude on that she attitude. We gonna crank him down. >> Um so she is very abrasive. >> So >> she's got the right group. >> Just so you know. >> She's got the right group. >> Yeah, she's uh she's a little spitfire this one. >> No, [snorts] they're not. >> I picked up a lady. It was while you were I think it was while you were out. Mhm. I was helping Hutch out cuz he was just bogged down calls and so I came in here and um watched her walk out with like a coffee maker and a bunch of clothes and stuff. So went tracked her down and um she swore up and down that she paid for the coffee maker. I said I said I watched you like it's on camera that you you walk up to the cash register with the self check out you put it on the ground you pay for like a $2 item and then you walk down the car. Is >> that the case you work when you got to go to that person house and get it? >> Yeah. >> So here we go. >> Let's do it. [snorts] >> That cake. What is she? [laughter] She's here walking out the hallway like today. She's like, "Hi everybody. It's my last day." Yeah. Yeah. Honey, it is your last day. >> Don't worry about that. >> God. >> And we're in. >> And we're in. >> All right. You guys want me to walk you up? >> Yeah. >> Hold on. Let's make sure that door is shut. >> All right. >> Let's go. >> All right. She know she's in trouble. They're right there. You can sit around. She's [ __ ] crazy. >> Are you serious? >> She's literally I've never I'm like a pretty good person. >> I hate her with every >> She hates me. I'm a pretty solid person. >> All right. She calls us every >> coach performance manager. >> Yeah. >> She immediately yells, stands up like, "Can you sit down, please?" And like tries to >> just somebody computer >> like what is that going to do? >> Just piss somebody off. >> Yeah. >> In my backyard. >> That's what you know like how much she's probably >> cuz she's worked here 10 years. >> That's >> and she's she's like the HR admin. She works in HR. >> She's my HR like assistant. >> What does she drive? I could see cuz she's actually pretty she's obviously not that smart, but she's pretty smart. So, I can see that this would have happened every so often when like whatever. >> Yeah, but I think they it like flags on a report. That's how it got >> probably. >> You know, >> maybe she's been testing it like in small increments. She didn't. I watched every video in that email. But >> yeah, >> this still got a couple. >> She took She might be. >> She took $31,000. >> Try something new. >> Nice. Once we get her hooked up, if you want to walk ahead and go grab your car through the front door, emergency access. >> We came in through the front door. >> I'm like way. >> Yep. >> I'm saying make an example. >> I don't give a [ __ ] who's officer now. Then >> I'm saying make an example. >> I love all of you. I feel like I bonded really quickly with everyone. Stand up for me. Turn around for you. Go stick me. >> No. Turn around for now. >> Turn around, please. >> Turn around for me, please. >> I can't believe this is happening. >> It will be hard. >> This hurts. Just let me know. Okay. >> Is that too tight? I don't know. have the latch on me. >> Please don't do this. >> Turn around for me. Got anything on me that's going to stick me? >> No. >> Turn around for me. >> Turn around, please. >> Turn around for me, please. >> I can't believe this is happening. >> Detained. We'll be all right. If this hurts, you let me know. Okay. >> Is that Is that too tight? >> I don't know. >> Yeah. Give me one more set. >> All right. >> You got nothing on that's going to stick me, cut me, hurt me. >> All right. >> Can we go out the side door, please? >> Go out the side door. I think we could probably do that. >> All right. Do I get to take my purse? >> Yeah, we'll grab your stuff for you. >> Hey, I can grab a bag. >> I'll bring about >> one of those groceries. >> Can someone get my purse? >> Yeah, we'll get all that stuff. Come with me first. >> It's at my desk. >> Okay, we'll get we'll get your stuff. >> All right. Is that your purse right there? Okay. >> Can we go out the back door? >> It's Please. >> So, we can do that. Sorry if you guys are okay with it. >> Whatever. >> Nicole, please. >> Yeah, we can do that. >> We got a fire exit down here. >> Okay, that's fine. >> Yeah, we can do that. >> Get your car. >> You want to do that? I'll grab my car. Yep. You got >> You got nothing on you, right? >> I have a phone in my >> This one right here? >> Yes, sir. >> I got that. Anything else on you, ma'am? >> Uh, no. >> Okay. All right. >> I just want to make sure I keep my phone. >> Yeah, I've got it. I'll put your phone. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Oh, I'm sorry about that. >> All right. All right. Go ahead. Have a seat for me. You just put your put one foot up so I don't choke myself. >> Okay. One foot up. >> Yep. And just push yourself back. >> Well, this is not easy. >> Hold on for me. >> Yeah, I've got some. >> Oh my gosh. >> All right. >> All right. >> Oh, that chokes. >> I'll put it down. I get it now. >> Okay. All right. Is that a wasp nest in the vehicle? >> It's dead. That's old. >> Did she make >> All right, my dear. >> It's kind of hot in here. >> Yeah, turn. It should be on, but it might be off. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say cannot be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have them make statements. >> Do you understand each's rights I've explained to you? Yes, sir. >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to speak? No, I want a lawyer. >> Okay. All right. So, you're invoking your rights? Pardon? >> You're invoking your rights? >> Yeah, I would like a lawyer. >> Okay. All right. >> And I need one assigned. >> Okay. So, you're not going to get one now. What I have to do is I have to get you to jail. Book you into jail and then you'll go from there. Okay. I'm going explain all that process to you. Okay. >> Okay. Don't matter anyway. >> I think it was just >> there's enough on video. Yeah, >> everything's on video and we got a full signed admission statement from her. Okay. So, >> all right. >> Admitting to she said $20,000 of cash previously, $400 of gift cards plus what she pulled out of her pocket. >> Okay. >> So, pretty much it's exactly what Target has proven off her. Maybe a little bit less, but Okay. >> All suspects are innocent until proven guilty. Thank you for watching.
