So, we have an associate that drop one thing that you need for that real quick. Um, the first step we found under running back through card transactions and stuff was February 28th and the last one we were able to find is the 15th of this month. Um, through that time 7685. Yeah. No. Um what she's doing is she's just covering barcodes on stuff. There are a few transactions in there um where she's buying $70 worth of stuff, but she covers the barcode on one or two things. So um and then there's two transactions where she just turns the barcode away. One of them was a tea that she actually had upside down. Her hand was covering a barcode then too. Um and then the other one was a PD light that she just turned away and cross. So there's the list of stuff there on CD as well. Okay. Did you want to look at any video before we went back or Oh, sure. Don't these people know how good you are at your job, Zane? Um do you feel insulted? Yeah. I don't know. Um, she looks at the barcode. She reaches over, grabs it with her right hand, covers the barcode, and just the cost of them. Pays 96. Sandwich was 4.77 or 57. What's her job here? She is an overnight mod setter, so she sets the the shelves when the new stuff comes in. Say she does check out the stuff. Um, okay, that's good enough for me. Okay, I believe I read this stuff. Um, and they did ask if at all possible she could be handcuffed and walk through the the grocery side. They're trying to set an example. [Music] So she Yeah, they're in back. Right. [Music] [Music] American we got we did inventory last week. Last week. Um, we didn't we actually dropped a whole bunch. We dropped 6%. So, anything under one's really good. [Music] 99. It's all cuz of you, Z. About all that. Well, a large portion of it. I mean, you catch a lot of people and I'm sure word of mouth spreads. Yeah. Here. is a good spot to steal from Walmart. Yeah, Clarkson Walmart has to be just gold mine. They lock up like the cosmetics and stuff. I was blown away. We went to one in California. Everything was locked. Oh my gosh. It was like you couldn't even get like soap. That's what I was talking about. The one in question is like that that section of like cosmetic area where you buy soaps and like facial soap. They have a comb for my like a brush. It's a brush. She like I have to call someone to get a brush. This is crazy. And there's places. Oh yeah. [Music] Yeah, they steal. It's been a few years ago when I was talking I was up to the Valley store in Spokane and I was talking to the the manager local. [Music] Ah, good answer. We are in Hello, Gordon. Um, we're done with kind of all the internal stuff. Yes. Okay. Um, she did say she has some stuff you said was in the locker in the break room. It's in my bag in the break room. Stuff that you collect. He He needs a card and a badge. Oh, gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. Just uh obviously they've kind of handled the internal stuff here. Um, you know, my job is to to talk to you about kind of what's happened and and see um about kind of our role in all this. Um, are you willing to talk with me kind of about what's going on? I can, but other than the statement that I gave you, I don't know what else you guys you made a written statement. Yes, sir. Okay. Um, well, let me just start and I want to make sure that you know your rights and that you're talking to the police and whatnot. Um, you do have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you without cost be so desire. You can exercise these rights at any time and have an attorney present before and during questioning and you are being hiding on video recording. So, you're not under arrest right now. Um I all I know is that you're you've been alleged to have stolen some stuff here, not running some some uh about $70 worth of goods here um over the last couple weeks or whatnot. So, that's what I'm here to think. Stealing is a crime, so you could be arrested for that. You want to tell me kind of or did you write a statement? I did write a statement. Yeah. What does the statement say? I wasn't aware that I was taking items that had not been scanned through the store and that they weren't being purchased. Okay. Do you think that's that's possible to consistently not be able to do use the selfch checkout? Whenever I come to a problem that I know that the register has said, hey, there's a problem, I go and get someone to come and fix it. Gotcha. Do you look at how much things cost when you purchase them? No. That's part of the problem is is that I when my run my debit card I'm not aware of what the price ended up saying? Are you uh this is kind of an odd question mark. Are you hard of hearing at all? Are you able to hear? No, but my site isn't always that great. So I don't pay attention. So I I've used it and it's been a minute, but it makes a sound right when something gets scanned. No, I guess I don't know. I don't even think about it. Okay. Are you literate and able to to read a computer screen? I am able to be insulting. I'm just trying to make sure that that's not that's not a a disability issue or something like that. But the screen I've been here a few times. Pretty easy to use. I understand. But at 2:00 in the morning and on my lunch break in between my first part of my shift and the second part of my shift, I'm just scanning stuff and swiping my card and taking it out to my car or taking it to lunch. That's all I'm doing. [Music] Is it odd that you consistently have your hand or something covering the merchandise? I don't know. I mean, you know, you you boo and you grab it and it covers one barcode and it doesn't cover another barcode. They're not always in the same place. So, kind of the issue is in viewing the video, it looks like you move it intentionally and manipulate it in order to cover the barcode. That's what I saw. Well, I'm not trying to Okay. Well, and you know that the the barcode reader has to see the product and if your hand is there, it's obviously not going to see the product. And so like the combination of those things, right, that there's no change on the screen, there's no sound, your hands in front of there, the price is wrong would lead a reasonable person to think that I'm not consciously aware that I am not scanning something. I I go and scan my I'm just taking my lunch break and that's that's all that's happening. If if I brought this information to you about somebody else, what would you think about them? Well, I would think the same thing that you think about me in the moment. Okay. Cuz I mean, how many different days are we on this? I don't know. How many they tell you? They showed me four, I think. [Music] Well, like I said, there are times when something goes wrong and the register says something is wrong. I'm going to go and get management and it's not easy to find them. If I was trying to steal from the company, then I would have just walked away and they would have a register that's broken and and whatever else. And I'm not walking away saying, "Hey, I'm going to fix this or I'm just going to walk out with it." If I'm aware of the problem and it won't let me go any further, then I go and get someone to get help. [Music] [Music] Everything it sounds like was food or perishable items. Mhm. All the stuff was like food and perishable items for the most part. It looks like machine. Yeah. So, I don't think we need to recover anything, right? We're not trying to restitution. Fair enough. Um, what's your status at the store trespass and whatnot? Nothing. Okay. Um, anything else, Jessica, that that I should know about this? you know, I'm going to explain what happened to our prosecutor and what what she told me here. I'd like to give you the opportunity to be honest and and maybe own up and say, "Hey, maybe I made a mistake." And it's probably about $70 worth of stuff here, which is pretty pretty civil and or minor and and and whatnot. But I think the thing that we look for is responsibility because if someone's not taking responsibility, how can we know it's not going to happen again? If that makes sense. um when we have someone who's not taking responsibility and this is a mistake. Well, this me you know is this something that happens to other other stores and other places as well in your life cuz a lot of people shop and my statement is as accurate as I can give you. I'm not trying to take anything from the company. I like shopping at Walmart. I like working for Walmart. I wasn't trying to steal anything. Okay. So, we're going to walk over to my patrol car. Um, I'm going to issue a citation for theft in the third degree. Okay. Um, and then you will be free to go. We have stuff we need to get from a law. All right. What does that mean? You're going to have a court date and you can talk to the prosecutor about um, if they think this is reasonable amount, there's that's a reasonable explanation. I don't find it. um I find that there's probable cause that you committed a theft and that that's not a reasonable um amount to of mistakes. So that's that. So that's my thought. Prosecutor may see it your way or not. He may say, "Hey, you get charged up, but I'm an issue. That's something you have to go to court and talk to them about." Okay. You want we'll follow you and get your uh get your badge and whatnot. is from to 11 p.m. Thank you for shopping at home Walmart and have a good [Music] night. Hello Did you have your ID real quick? Yes, sir. Is it I don't want you to touch it. Is that a box cutter in your back pocket? Yes. Don't Don't touch it. Don't touch it. That's what I just said. Just leave it there for me, please. Okay. Got it. Thank you. All right, let's go outside to my car. Get that stuff back to the store. I'll follow you. [Music] Good night. We'll be on this side. Can you picture my back? Jessica. Yes, but they can use it. It doesn't matter. The the ladder's not She's store used it for the mod crew, but the ladder can be for all of the mod crew. That wasn't my purchase. [Music] Yeah, I did purchase that myself. Did you need to check my lunch box or anything? You said this side. Yep. We're right out to the left of the door. [Music] [Music] All right, let's go to the second car. and I'll just turn it off. No, I'll get one for that. Um, it's up to you. Do you want to sit in the back seat or stand in the front? It's up to you. You want to sit in the back? Stand right there or sit in the back. Sit. I'm not going to You can put your stuff down. You can put it on the hood of my car. All I'm going to do is enter this stuff in my uh computer, print you a piece of paper, and you will be good to go. So, you can put your stuff down. That'll probably take me about 3 or 4 minutes. I may ask you a question or two, but that'll be [Music] it. Okay, ma'am. Rip the corner off there. It just has my name on it. The only part that's not really important. Um, so I'll give you that. But the case numbers on top here, your information, the location. Um, it's a theft third degree, which is the lowest level of theft, just a misdemeanor. And it's multiple occurrences. I didn't charge you theft on this day, theft on this day, theft on this day. It sounds like it's a whole bunch of little days. Um, it's a mandatory court appearance. They're going to mail you a court date to your address in Albian. If for some reason that gets lost in the mail, the mail dog eats it or whatever. Make sure you call the court. If you don't hear from the court in about 15 days, um, just as a phone number there, call them and say, "Hey, I really like my court date." The problem is is if they do not hear from you, um then they think that I abandoned and they'll give you they'll give you a warrant and then you'll get in physical custody, spend a weekend in jail for this is not something that you're spend any time in jail for. Um so you said 2 weeks? Yeah, give it about 2 weeks. Um if you don't hear from them if you want to call them next week, you can't you can you call early that's fine. Um cuz I'll have I'll have it I'll have it to them um tomorrow. Okay. Um that way or tomorrow the next day whenever they give me all the the video and and whatnot, but I think I think I already have it. Then I go to they'll give you they'll give you a date. um in location. There's one in Pullman and one in um Kfax. So um it'll be one of those two locations. Okay. Um give me questions. Um I'm a little confused. You said talking about the prosecutor and then you said talking about court. So my prosecutor is with the court. Prosecutor is is the state and they represent the state at the court. On the first appearance, they're going to tell you that you're being char what you're being charged with. Um, and they they could may be willing to talk with you about a misdemeanor compromise, which is just a option to kind of pay for the missing goods and not get in trouble again as an option. I can't promise what they would do. Um, they're not sending you to prison or anything like that. It's not going to be anything crazy. Um, but they're they're they'll talk to you about what they how they see the case, if that makes sense. So, I'll give them I collect the information. I'll give it to them. They'll tell you how they see it and what they think the the proper path is. Um, you obviously have all your rights. You can demand a trial by jury and all those things that that you can do. Um, so I don't want to make sure I don't want to put those aside because you have have rights that you can follow that way. Um, but a lot of times they call it kind of a courtroom work group where they will try to to figure out the best resolution um, for this. Does that make sense? Yes. Okay. So, when I get the court date, then I talk to the prosecutor at the court date and then there will be a prosecutor there. Yep. You can always call their office too. Um, they should have the case in a few days. Okay. Thank you. Yep. I'm gonna head back inside and uh thanks. Thanks, Garrett. [Music] I want to show you one more video just to clarify it in my mind. Like I said, it's intent's very obvious on them, but 3351 is my case. If you want to write that down, write it on this paper. No. Okay. 25-p 3351 That could be the 4987. [Music] I'd buy more than a sandwich if I was going to steal ribs or something, you know. I stole 20 cans of coffee accidentally. I had uh this one this one guy used to steal it was a dirt bag and he stole one time and I remember he stole a steak and ribs and I was like you're the first guy that actually did what I would have done. It's like if you're going to steal you're going to take the risk. What time was that? You might as well get some ribeye out of the deal. I was trying to buy the rest of the coffee that we had in stock and my selfch checkout transaction didn't go through. I didn't get a receipt and I freaked out. So with this one, she had back up. Yeah. Back up. So she scans that butter, covers it, and she has one in her other hand. [Music] Yay. Heat. Heat. N. [Music]
