If you have any other issues or questions, feel free to call. I'll be in the area until about 6:00 a.m. tonight. >> You can always feel the tension in encounters like this from the very first second. Especially when a man has already made his mind up, he's going to resist. And every breath he takes is just building up for more fuel for the fire. I learned pretty quickly that the uniform alone did not earn you respect. A lot of the time it took how you carry yourself, your presence, your training, and yes, your ability to handle yourself physically to make sure someone thought twice before testing you. That's why self-defense training is more than a checkbox at the academy. And the public doesn't see the countless hours of training officers actually go through. But when a suspect decides to test the law with his fist, those hours become the line between walking away upright or being carried off. And here's the part most people overlook. Because being a cop isn't just about throwing punches or pulling triggers. Because the first weapon you should always reach for should be your voice. Whether a man is ready to go to war on a porch or an immature drunk woman, the right words at the right time can mean the difference between calm compliance and a fight that ends in handcuffs. Because when the fight finds you, and trust me, it will. The badge does not save you, it cannot give you heart, and the uniform won't protect you. All that's going to matter is whether you built yourself strong enough, skilled enough, and disciplined enough to win. And if you didn't, you'll learn the hard way that this job does not forgive weakness. Delaney was charged with felony and misdemeanor bail jumping, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. She's innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
