Hey everyone, it's Trent Prior, Deputy Sheriff, Patrol Sergeant, and K9 Handler. According to the victim and suspect in this video, the main instigating factor was the suspect's withdrawal from nicotine. But just like the victim stated, that is definitely not an excuse to be physically violent with his children or with her. And kicking a small child, pushing another one, and also hitting a pregnant woman creates an extreme risk of serious injury or worse. Children are incredibly fragile, not to mention hitting a pregnant woman puts two lives at risk at that point. And if someone like this suspect knows that he's going to be withdrawing from nicotine it could potentially be problematic, he's extra irritable and annoyed and angry, then somebody like this should take it upon themselves to remove themselves from that situation prior to any sort of escalation. But since there was probable cause established, corroborating injuries to match the statements, not to mention a prior history of abuse with this suspect, it kind of matched up with the behavior that we're seeing in this video. The law often requires law enforcement to act once probable cause has been established in these domestic violence cases or in cases involving child abuse. Because at that point, the role of law enforcement is to prevent further violence and the safety of the victims becomes the priority. He was charged with domestic battery on a pregnant woman and child abuse but remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. [Music]
