on February 27th 2024 at around 11:00 p.m. beralo County deputies were out conducting an auto theft tactical operation when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Green Acura SUV the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of The rata Plaza Hotel before trying to flee the vehicle began fleeing but crashed into the exterior of the hotel stop hands up hands up he's reaching get us units code three here now he's reaching in the vehicle put your hands up hands up he fired a shot he fired a shot get out get out get out weit we need units here now we need to start doing an HR in this hotel he fired a shot to get into the hotel someone get on to is he inside yes he inside he fired a shot where's he at what's he wearing which way hey guys the to the back of the this way go [Applause] in ch's office loading check go ahead up checking checking check he fired a shot he has the gun I got we have shots fired by 34s after the shooting deputies lost track of the suspect which resulted in additional deputies setting up a perimeter around the hotel keep pushing checking check I'm going to get on South guys or north north r White Beanie or correction white wife beer he's sagging his pants and a black beanie heavy set 5'8 and it looks like he has been hit one of the units said they see blood one more on the move the on the fr we're looking for inside or outside there's a [Music] Breezeway do we have anyone Inside the Hotel somebody back inside let's go with me it looks like there was a with me I'm try knock sir you Dan between you and I think you might made it out I do have on the wall so if you want look that way who is that with the female and the vehicle I'm not seeing any obvious blood on this Southeast door or over here here I think where 169 is would be a good spot to start with PSD everyone else let hold what we [Music] have where is 16 can you run that yeah let's see what it's got so you they're going to go south in the hway and then they'll come to raway that goes east you'll see us through that rway we can link up if you come to me have tat all over hey catch that guy grab that guy hey hey hey hey stop stop get out car get out Fu get out of the car get [ __ ] car give me your hand move your legs Mo get outu [Applause] resting y' coming off straight back give me room give him room your [Applause] yep all right everybody good hi what's up doc good right everybody okay he's got blood on his arm let's see what's going on roll him over check his waistb get him up on his side there it is right there leave him right there for a second you good get my bag y right there for the driver was identified as 39-year-old Lupe Vargas L Vargas L Vargas in you got that down hey can can you guys start inside to the right go inside that first Hall to the right and start clearing with 189 there a hallway I got you well here's what we don't know right now right forearm may have an injury to it he also got a k9 bike we're going to stand him up and check him head to toe real quick give you a once over I have wrapped his right forearm right now okay hey man we're going to stand up okay we need to stand up we need cooperate help us ready there we go all right stand up so guys here's what we got right forearm I've checked him this Blood was all from We wrapped it here there may be a gunshot wound under here his gun had it in his hand did have blood on it running you want to take that all the way off he was running got into this truck and then we had to go hands on to get him out of the truck and then it came um we don't know there was there was shots fired he got into the truck LT and so he was running had a gun in his waistband we didn't know that till we pulled him out put him K9 pulled him out of car let me hold this while you clear that bucket we'll get you we don't have anything yet it's on the hood long story here we go right here there yep for needles want to get your fingers watch out for those needles right there go and we have not wa wait wait wait got a while deputies searched Vargas Vargas was found to be in possession of fentanyl don't know don't know that it's there yeah let me put these in that bag do you leave all this here bro just leave it all here okay from here I would say probably yeah at the time of the shooting Vargas had active warrants out for his arrest for violating his probation after he tested positive for meth and fent Vargas was checked out by EMS and was treated for his bite wound and a non-life-threatening gunshot wound Vargas who is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history was then transported to the Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of felon in possession of a firearm aggravated fleeing an officer battery upon an officer shooting in an occupied building breaking and entering burglary of a vehicle possession of a controlled substance tampering with evidence trafficking controlled substances and criminal damage to property
