Y'all always going to mind, bro. [Applause] >> Hey everyone, it's Trent, prior deputy sheriff, patrol sergeant, and K9 handler. The initial reason for the traffic enforcement stop or vehicle pullover here was incredibly simple and basic and in most situations that would result in a traffic citation at most. However, sometimes it turns into something else like we see here in the video. But law enforcement has the legal authority to initially order the driver out of the vehicle at any point in time that they wish and then once they had established that reasonable suspicion, which is a much lower threshold than probable cause to determine that the male suspect passenger was in the process of committing a crime. Because according to these officers, the the legal age to purchase or consume tobacco products in that state, which is in Ohio, is going to be 21. They articulated that he appears to be much younger than that. And again, with that reasonable suspicion threshold, they have that legal authority at that point to demand his identification from him. And failure to do so can result in an obstruction charge, and they can legally remove him from the vehicle at that point as well. I heard one of the officers in the video stating that they were going to be getting a K-9 on scene to conduct an air sniff. the cop dog was going to be arriving on scene, taken around the vehicle by the canine handler, and then if it alerted on the vehicle, then by law, it would give these officers legal authority to physically search the vehicle at that point in time, which of course they do, and it's indicated that they located small amounts of inside the vehicle as well. >> The 18-year-old was arrested for obstructing official business, possession of and possession of paraphernalia. The teenage driver was released with only a traffic citation. Yes. [Music] All right.
