Yes, sir, we did. At 5:00 in the morning? I met the owner at Romeo's. All right, he's coming up behind us. >> Okay. All right. I met the owner at Romeo's cattle enclosure. And what happened? Nothing. He told me he had an after-party. What a fighter. You got it. >> at Romeo's. Who was that? Irene's? We was eating. Yeah. >> That's my girlfriend. This This my car. Where Where's the after-party? I don't know what happened at the I don't know what happened at the after-party. We was at the We So, I'm drunk. She was driving. We met them at Romeo's. He said him and his father owned the um Jordan. Did I tell you to sleep behind one of my cars? No. All right, come on. What's going on? Now is your chance to grab a mouse or your finger and click the like button like you have never clicked it before. All right, come on. What's going on? I don't know. They just asked me if I fell asleep behind one wheel car, and I said no. The nice little boy said, "What's wrong?" Did I fall asleep? And he said, "No." Okay. If the driver needs to confirm whether she was awake while operating a motor vehicle, that is an issue. And if the driver was asleep and the passenger didn't notice, then I suspect that all of the occupants of the vehicle were basically catching Zs at the traffic light. Yikes. I just asked him if I fell asleep behind the wheel of my car, and I said no. The nice little boy said, "What's wrong?" Did I fall asleep? And he said, "No." Okay. Where are you guys from? From here. Uh Pennsylvania. >> [cheering] >> So, you staying in Wildwood tonight? I'm not staying in Wildwood. We were We were just out last night. Okay. You didn't stay in a hotel? This family lives out here. Oh, so you stay with them. Are you just leaving or are you going back to Philadelphia now? For my cousin's house. His what? His family's house. In Wildwood. So, where are you going? >> Thank you. His family's house. Oh, you're going with him. Okay. So, you're not going back to >> don't know why I'm getting pulled over right now. This is crazy. I got called about someone who was asleep behind the wheel, so Who was in the car with me? My boyfriend. Yeah, well, he He wouldn't have let me sleep behind the wheel. Like, this is crazy. Listen, we got to follow protocol to respond and figure things out. Woah, woah, woah. Oh. You wouldn't let me sleep behind the Okay. Wait. My No, no, no. On some real gang [ __ ] you talk to me like my dad, my father is a homicide detective. I don't care. Well, congratulations and good for your father. I hope he flourishes as a homicide detective and is never, ever suspected of falling asleep at a traffic light. However, the driver's mention of her father's profession is irrelevant to the investigation against her. If the driver's intention in mentioning that her father is a homicide detective was to seek leniency, then she is failing badly because one of the officers showed his lack of interest by responding with, I quote, "I don't care." Wait, my No, no, no. Awesome, bro. Yeah, you talk to the >> My dad, my dad, my father is a homicide detective. I don't care. Yeah, that doesn't mean anything. >> my But, the thing is I have my badge. >> That doesn't mean anything. No, it does, though. It does. I have It doesn't when you're asleep behind the wheel. I was not asleep behind the wheel. That's the thing. Well, we're going to file saying that you were asleep behind the wheel, so we still have to investigate. So, I'm just not listening. >> So, when I saw the cops lights All right, right now, I'm just going to stop talking to you cuz it's pointless at this point, cuz you're not listening. All I'm saying is to me, you guys don't care. My dad's a homicide detective. I have my badge on me. It is illegal in the state of New Jersey for a civilian to be in possession of an official law enforcement badge, regardless of whether they are related to the officer who owns it. Under New Jersey's strict badge transfer laws, there are no family exemptions for possessing or carrying an active duty badge. While some laws may have immediate family exemptions, the law governing the possession of police badges does not allow an officer to lend their badge to a spouse, child, or relative. My dad's a homicide detective. I have my badge on me. It's stressing me out that y'all I tried to I tried to I tried to show you >> you show it to your dad? That doesn't mean anything to us, but you guys simply saying I don't care. >> Yeah, we don't. Okay, so it's like Yes, now I'm freaking out because That doesn't get you out of everything. But it I'm not drunk driving. Okay. >> Okay. >> I'm not. Okay. I'm not drunk driving. You can do all of that right now. Okay, okay. Did they get your information yet? Do you have a middle initial? Date of birth? Can I show you my badge? Not right now. What's the address for you? Uh-huh. Address? Where's that at? North Wales Pennsylvania North Wales, PA I have my badge in my car. What's a good phone number for you? >> Like why are all these cop cars here? We said we get a call we have to respond. What What was the call supposed to be? They were asleep behind the wheel. You're from out You're from out It's a female first. Listen to me first. I don't understand what's me being a female >> first. Listen to me. Listen to So what is it female not me being a female >> saying like besides being a cop My boyfriend leaves for Italy today. Okay. Today Listen today I still don't understand Like isn't today was today was the last day that I got to hang out with him. Mhm. Did I fall asleep behind the wheel? We have to respond, right? >> let me fall asleep behind the wheel. I'm telling you >> You won't let me like it it it it just didn't happen. Like I know where we was at tonight. Like it just didn't happen. Okay. I'm not going to argue with the cops. Listen, my dad is a detective. The blood oath, yeah. I've tried to get my badge a couple times off this car. For some reason, y'all seem to not care. I'm telling you that no one is allowed to have a badge. >> like I have the badge for a reason. >> Okay. I have the badge for a reason. Like let me at least pull it out. Let me >> That doesn't That's not a get out of jail free card. It's It's not. It's not. But it can help the situation. It can help how y'all decide to deal with the situation. >> a [laughter] motor vehicle stop, yes, but the fact that we got a call about you receiving a call, that doesn't It doesn't matter. >> not sleeping behind the wheel. I was not asleep. I was not asleep. Okay. Let's clear this I'm No, cuz I'm I'm really getting I'm really getting upset. I'm really getting upset. I was not sleeping. The cop mentioned something I totally disagree with. The cop implied that the driver might receive the leniency she is seeking if this were a motor vehicle stop. Giving badges or other law enforcement credentials to relatives has been a long-standing practice, though it has evolved from a matter of tradition into a strictly regulated and often illegal activity. Allowing a civilian to use an official detective's badge for personal gain is widely condemned as a source of systemic injustice. Recent investigation and legal reports, particularly in New Jersey, have highlighted how this practice creates a two-tiered system of justice. Start the double was a motor vehicle stop, yes, but the fact that we got a call about you were asleep behind the wheel, that doesn't help. >> I was not asleep behind the wheel. I was not asleep. I was not asleep. So, let us Let us do our investigation. No, cuz I'm really getting I'm really getting upset. I'm really getting upset. I was not asleep. I'm being patient, but I was not asleep. >> I appreciate your patience, but you just have to let us do >> not asleep. I was not asleep. >> Taylor, let us do our investigation. All right? This is a police This is Let me show my badge. Let me show it. >> do our investigation. No one's going in the car right now. Taylor, you got to stay over here. Taylor, you got to stay over here. Let me show it. >> What's the point of that? That's not going to do anything right now. >> I was not I was not behind the wheel. Do you I was not How many times you told me that your dad was a detective? You showing your badge right now is not going to do anything. Taylor. >> Taylor. All right, listen, Taylor. No, I can't even breathe. Do you need medical attention? No. Okay. No, I need my dad. I need my dad. All right. Just put your right foot No, not right now. How old are you? 24. Okay. The driver's excessive determination to prove to the cops about her father's law enforcement position might be a healthy result of a great father-daughter bond. I am pretty sure that the driver's father is an exceptional, amazing father. But, sometimes it's a logical decision to inform your children, especially when you are in a position of authority, to never in your long-legged life mention my name or my position to anyone outside of our family circle. Do you need medical attention? No. Okay. No, I need my dad. I need my dad. All right. I need my dad. Put your right foot. No, not right now. How old are you? 24. Okay. All right. Put your >> my dad. My dad's a cop, too, but I never say that to the police like this ever when I got pulled over. >> I didn't disrespect you, guys. >> Yes. According to sources, the suspect was found guilty of operating under the influence. As a result of her conviction, she had to spend 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center and pay a total of $690 in fines. Police may suspect intoxication when a driver is found asleep because the physical and behavioral symptoms of extreme fatigue mirror those of alcohol or drug impairment. Beyond the act of sleeping itself, officers look for specific legal and physical clues to justify a DUI investigation. Police often use a welfare check as the initial reason to approach a sleeping driver to ensure they aren't experiencing a medical emergency. If the officer notices any signs of impairment during this check, they then have probable cause to escalate to a DUI investigation, including field sobriety test.
