Welcome back everyone. Today's video comes to us from the state of Washington where officers with the Department of Fish and Wildlife on patrol in Kalama County. [music] Now some basic regulations before we get into the video. In the state of Washington just like every other state that I'm aware of anglers are required to have a fishing license in order to be out fishing. Now if you recall from a recent video smelt have a very narrow season. Now on the day of the interaction the smelt season only ran from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the body camera footage starts about 3 hours after the season closed. Now one more law that should be obvious to all of us, it is unlawful to present yourself as another person to avoid an infraction. >> How are you? >> Good. >> Hey my name is Officer Cole Department of Fish and Wildlife. You're being audio visually recorded, okay? >> All right. >> Stay right there. Whose car is this? >> Oh my car. >> Oh it's a fancy ride man. What's your name? >> Um >> Hey how's it going? So, that's criminal impersonation in the first degree. >> And how long there? In less than a day? >> Uh you will stay there till probably tomorrow when you'll be able to go before a a judge and plead guilty or innocent. >> Can I Can I plead guilty now? >> What's that? >> Can I plead guilty now? >> No, you have to go before a a judge. So, you have to go to court tomorrow. >> But, I'm staying the night overnight. >> Yeah, correct. >> Is there any way I can like >> What? >> Is there any way I can like go to jail and then get out in a couple hours? I need to go home. >> No. You're going to go to jail and they're going to you'll see a judge tomorrow. It's my first time, so >> Yeah, so um no. Like you if you were honest with me, you would have gotten just a fine. Like if But, because >> was that serious. >> But, because you lied to me, like now it's you you go to jail. Like because you gave me a fake name and like you >> Cuz like I saw people do it. I thought it was like I know it's not okay, but like I didn't know it was that serious. >> Yeah, yeah. So, well, the fishing thing is not that serious. The giving me a fake name of a real person, that's serious. >> Oh. >> So, that's a >> Yeah, I just saw a lot of people do it. >> Okay, so what I need to do is get out of your car. >> Okay. I I I I didn't know it was that serious. >> Yeah, I know you don't want to lie, but you know, and I honestly don't want to take you to jail, but do you have any Again, do you have any weapons or knives or anything that could poke me, stick me, stab me? >> No. >> Anything like that? I do, we are all friends. >> Uh-huh. >> So, the So, the situation right now So, the guy right here I think he's the he's getting his idea on it. So, yeah, so I tell him to come so we all come together see >> Who is that? >> The guy that he he was Yeah. >> He doesn't have any equity in this. Like it doesn't matter who he is. Like Like do you know Like who Who's going to bail pick him up tomorrow? >> Tomorrow? >> Yeah. >> Not today? >> No. No, he's >> So, but he not in like the actual jail like just on the detainee. >> Well, it's it's a jail. It's a county jail. He's going to county jail. >> Is everybody going to be there? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> By himself? >> Uh well, there'll be a bunch of people there, bunch of other prisoners. And so, um Yeah, so uh >> I mean >> He's got to go to court tomorrow. So, do you want to talk like >> Yeah, I I need to talk to him and then >> Uh-huh. Hey, do you want me to call somebody? Do you want to call somebody and tell them that you're going to be sick tomorrow? Cuz you got to go to work tomorrow? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I just got caught. >> Can you Can you tell me? Thank you. >> Is it Is it going to be a long process? >> All right, bye. >> I I I really need to go to work tomorrow. >> What's that? You're not going to work like after court? You're going to work? What's that? Hey, they uh they might release you tonight. I don't know, but like >> I just want to really want to go home tonight. >> What's that? >> I I just want to go home tonight cuz I don't want my dad to worry about me anymore. >> Yeah, sure. Uh but they might not, too. I don't know. I can't control that. >> Because of time? >> Uh no, because of uh how many people are in jail. If their jail is full, they won't take you. If the jail is not full, they will. But uh you you will go there tonight. And so, like >> Wait, so tonight? >> Yeah, they may release you or they may not. Okay? >> Is this going to be like unrecorded like >> What? >> Is this going to be unrecorded like >> Yeah. >> with my ID? >> Yeah. So, all right. >> Hey, sir. >> Hey. >> Man, I just want to know what what is he getting charged >> Uh that's not any of your business. Thank you. Have a good day. >> So, the main question is I don't want to get him in in the jail with everybody. I mean, with with like one room is fine. Otherwise, we have I have to find a lawyer for him. So, yeah, that's a big problem. >> Yeah, yeah. Hey, I got to go. Okay? You're You're free to leave, but he's going to jail. Have a nice day, okay? >> So. >> All right, the only thing I took from you is your phone, right? Okay. >> Nope, coming in. >> Yes, sir. >> All right, come in. Long we will get you You here in just a minute. You've never been here before, huh? >> No, sir. >> Yep. First day. >> Nice. >> Yep. So That's right. So Yeah. >> We'll show you what paperwork you need to fill out when you get in. >> Okay. >> Now, in the end, the individual wearing orange was issued two citations. One for fishing without a license, and the second for fishing for smelt during a closed season. Now, regarding the individual wearing the black jacket, his case is a little bit different. The officer decided to refer criminal charges to the Cowlitz County Prosecutor's Office. The charges included criminal impersonation in the first degree, fishing without a license, and fishing for smelt during a closed season. Now, unfortunately, with Washington's online court record system having limited access, we're unable to determine the outcome of the case. Now, the Now, I think it's safe to say that the easiest way to get arrested by a fish and wildlife officer is to lie about who you are. I don't know who the friend is, but if I were him, I'd be pretty pissed off. Anyways, that's it for today's video. If you like content like this, be sure to check out our other channel that focuses exclusively on fish and wildlife content. As always, thanks for watching. [music] >> [music]
